Title: $12000 for an FC??
Post by: crystel_angel on May 09, 2005, 04:04:27 AM
Just wondering what other people think, as im having a hard time deciding due to emotional attachment. I bought my FC for $2500 a month ago, and recently a neighbour has offered me $12000 for it ( :o ) but im so attached to it i dont know if i can sell, but then again the money will be good for uni next year. Is this a good price for the car, or should i hang out for more? (i have no idea how much they are worth) and is selling my 'vicky' to buy another FC going to lose me money?. I l know you cant tell without looking at the car, but the interior is perfect and it needs next to no work done on it.

Crystel, I would say 12k is a very good price for an original unrestored car.  Unless you are really attached to it, I would say sell and buy again later.

Ditto.  Sell, sell, sell.
Of course make sure your neighbour isn't just making noise.  If he wants to pay somewhere around that, get another car (or two) later.

Crystal
Nail your neighbours feet to the floor and then tie them to the sit. The price your talking is very good money for a unrestored FC. As torque said take the money and run you can buy again later, and still have change

Now my Advice would be deffirent if you had said your Vicki was a FE. hehehe ;D

Cheers
Sarge

Now here is the reason in black and white why a good hearted person is thin on the ground .
If this guy has no idea what they are worth and he is trusting in you a little and you proceed to take his money ,Id say expect some revenge in the futre.

Once you buy and own something you become more and more interested in it, and up to date on it as time goes on (Im not saying the car isnt worth this sum) but i hope it is.

And every post before me refers to "If he is willing to part with his money - rip him blind !"
Its dissapointing to say the least.

Yea, ive been considering the ethical side of ripping them off. Not looking good...... think id feel so damn guilty. Not that she needs the money though, shes the kinda person who buys a mercedes cash in hand. Im really worried though, ive been searching for a new FC to purchase and have only found 1 off this site and it was pretty dodge. Are they getting hard to buy, or is it just a lull?

I sit with Harko on this one, after all you have to live next to her and look at Leon's problems :o

If she is that well off then maybe you need to point out to her that she could get one for about $7000 but it would not be the same colour etc as yours and paint jobs cost a bit.  Tell her you don't really want to sell as you know it will cost you a fair bit of time and effort to get one that you are as happy with as this one. In all likelyhood she wants yours and not another one so may still be willing to part with $1200 for it.

As people have said here before, it is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay and everything is for sale at a price.

Guilt Free ;D

If somebody offered you a price for your car that was above what it owes you. I am pretty sure you would consider it as Crysal is.

When it come's to selling any car it's as Burnsy has said

I dont take to kindly to your suggestion that I would, could or have ripped people off Harko. The Girl has had an very good offer on her car, an offer that is to good to refuse. I am sure that the person/persons making this offer would have the car checked over and be happy to pay the amount they have offered if the car is what they so desire.

Guys.
I can see both sides of the story.
My HG Belmont sold for the highest price any Belmont has sold before in OZ. Almost as much as a Monaro. BUT, I think it was worth it & so did the guy who bought it. It was his offer & he is still as stoked as I am. Because you could never build originality or genuine miles into a car.

But, I have also seen people totally fleeced by someone who is willing to grab what cash they can, because of an "Emotional" buy.

On the weekend, I was offered 3 times the money I paid for my Sloper :o. Not enough. Why, because I am already attached to the car & didn't buy it to make a quck buck.

Crystal, do you think the car is worth that much? Maybe tell the person the going rate for a car of that vintage & then let the buyer decide. If that money is what it will take for you to part with it, due to your attachment & if they still want the car & have the cash, accept it.

Why do you want to sell it and buy another one?

Pretty simple, my masked man.
Example;

Johnny buys an orange for $2
Billy comes along & says to Johnny "I will give you $20 for that orange"!
Johnny is shrewd! He knows he can go & buy another orange for $2, so he says, "No problems Billy. Here you go"! ;)

I just paid $2500 for mine, which I thought was a good deal. If someone offered me even $8 gorillas I would take it.

Remember, the 12k was what was offered for the car with no solicitation. If someone thinks it's worth it, let them buy it I say.

Crystel,

You're an adult.  You know what's right and what's wrong.  You need to make up your own mind as to whether you sell to your neighbour, and at what price.  As you are already aware, $12,000 is a good price for an FC, and it certainly makes a good profit for you.

...but you have to live with yourself, and you have to live with your neighbour.  Remember, you'll be seeing this person frequently, if not every day.  You'll also see your neighbour driving your car.  How will you feel?  If the answer is "Comfortable", then do it.

I see you've found Fast Eddie's car on this site - compare your car with his to get some idea of what yours is worth - remember he was originally asking $10,000 for his but he wants to sell it quickly.  In my opinion, Edward's is worth the $10,000 he's asking - I'd buy it if I was allowed!!!  ;)

Consider your position.

Good luck.

Martin

Just thought id thank you all for your advice, but sadly, after feeling too guilty i turned my neighbour down. My boyfriend talked me into selling it but when i went back the next day she had already invested it in shares. I gotta learn to be more descisive. lol and Martin, im not legally an adult for 17 more days  ;D

Good to see youve got a heart Crystel .
Is there any chance that she just had your best interest at heart ?
If so when the shares are sold the money will come but I guess by that time her money wont buy your love and happiness of owning such an awesome car .
It will be harder to part with and the price will have inflated  ;D
Happy 18th for sunday week..

Its a shame you arent local ,I know a ton of guys that would be jumping out of their skin to date a chick driving an old Holden .
