Title: Hilda's Extreme Makeover
Post by: Emu on April 07, 2004, 06:45:51 AM
Here's a couple of pics from the day we picked up Hilda and brought her home. She was last registered in 1994 and had been in a shed since.

This was July 2003.

We spent a few weeks getting her roadworthy and have been driving her since then, with a few periods off the road for suspension work and the motor work which I posted pics of under "Hilda's Donk"

That was until late last week..............

The original "Volcanic Grey" is visible in this shot in contrast to a later blue spray.

I am looking to respray more blue than grey. No offense to the grey lovers, but my daughter Sarah is more partial to the Blue. I like Grey, as can be testified to by "Harvey" my FC Special Sedan.

Can anyone tell me what would be the closest 1959 GM Blue to the one on the car?

She's off to the sandblasters next week.

We have found a few rust probs as shown in this shot. Pretty good overall though.

There's a reasonable rust spot at the end of the sill in this shot.

Standby for a close up of the spot.

I have discovered inside this sill is a rolled up newspaper!!

I am going to try to successfully retrieve it. It will be an interesting way to date an old repair.

It has occurred to me that I never posted a shot of Hilda's donk when in place.

Here it is in Hilda complete with alloy rocker and chrome side plate, chrome breather and twin strommies.

Still a few things to do under there, but I have heard from other FC/FEists that there is always still something to do!!

Hi EMU.
Did you say an alloy sideplate? If so, what brand?
There are 2 items that I have not been able to score over the last couple of years that I have been into looking for "The Bits". An alloy side plate & an FB EK Picnic shelf. I have had every other accessory ( some you wouldn't believe), but those 2 still elude me. And boy it shits me I can't find them!!!
A close up shot would be great if possible.
Regards,
Rob J

Hey Rob

You say picnic shelf. Its not for the cop car is it???

There was one on ebay a couple of years ago, sold for about the $550-$600 mark.

Hi.

Air Chief,
Yes, I know of that one. It was bought be a fella in the TAS club. He is now a resident of VIC. Tony G was after the same item. I wasn't online at that time & was really pissed I missed it.
Not for the CopCar, just to have & to hold. A future project maybe??
Next time, you watch!!
Rob J

John M.
Thanks for that, John. It clears it up. It is a chrome cover. Tony C who also uses this forum scored an alloy not long back. I am after a "Speco" or an original "Cooper", bu the JWL Equipped" would be sweet too. If anyone has got one, name your price.

EMU,
Sorry to hijack this thread. It is all yours again. Hilda is going to look great. That little box of goodies I sent up, should be there very soon.

Regards,
Rob J

Hey Rob

I understand what you mean by " just to have & to hold".  I've had one packed away for a year now with no car to fit it too, not even one in sight. Its one of those things that you just don't come across to often.

Gday Emu,
Is Hilda going to be dressed in time for the Wintersun?  I hope to get there & would like to see another FC wagon there.  Might even get to say hello to you and Sarge.
I've got the whitewalls on ready to go.  Just have to borrow the foxtail off the FJ for the week!

Cheers Shayne.

Hey Shayne,

With regard to Wintersun, all I can say is.. "Possibly"

I'm certainly hoping so. My painter mate is working quick.

All panels are at sand blaster today. The body will go to the blaster next week. So..... fingers crossed.

Either way, I'll be there with "Harvey" so we'll catch up with the Sarge.

The sandblaster dude did a real good job. My panel beater was very happy.

I was a bit nervous after I asked the question on this site and received some warnings about the process.

He uses a real fine black rutile sand and understands the need to be gentle in some areas. He backs off the pressure if he is worried about warping at all. He will tell u straight up if he has any concerns about warping etc.

He is a Camaro enthusiast and has 3 in various states of restoration all of which have been sandblasted.

I'll wack his details on the site in the area that sarge n RET are working on.

Gday EMU

Was wondering if u could give me the name of the guy you got to sandblast your car.  Like you I was having second thoughts about getting mine sandblasted after what I have seen from streetneat and the other people who have commented on it.  But I am also in queensland and would be interested to go and have a talk to this guy.

Thanks mate

Hey Mick,

Somehow I missed this post.

The guy who blasted was recently on the news coz the government bought the land for the c4 Tugun By-Pass route. The stupid thing is, the road won't be built for 2-3 years but they gave him two weeks notice to vacate so they could leave the land feral!!! >:( >:(

he's presently looking for a suitably remote piece of land to set up.

Sorry I took so long to reply. I'll post info when or if he relocates.

Well.....
getting back to Hilda.

We came to a bit of a crossroads when my mate Kev, the painter and I hit the serious rust repair needs. I have a very good friend who specialises in restoring old cars and was prepared to help us out with Hilda. Unfortunately he fell pretty ill, so we were stuck.

Through a series of circumstances, my old second-in-charge from the famous OZ vs Kiwi Rugby wars, Sarge,  who lives 2 minutes down the road, happened to mention his former life as a fitter/welder.
Well!!!!!..................
Now isn't that interesting says I!!!!

Semi-retired are ya?

mmmmmmmm.

Well here's a couple of shots of the latest progress on Hilda.

Shot one shows Kev the painter on the left and yes...... there he is....... the FAMOUS... Sarge in all his glory.

What a legend!! A Guru in fact. Possibly even a Saviour!
Messiah could be getting carried away.  ;)

While I'm typing he's welding.

If you compare with the earlier pics in this thread you will appreciate the work. An awful lot of work was done on the invisible side too.

It is starting to look as if you have employed the services of what could be deemed as the "HISTORIC HOLDEN" Extreme Make Over Restoration Rescue Team.
Shit I might have to reserve the rights to that one and have my own reality TV show.

*Rusty Restoration Rescue, or

Hilda is looking great Emu...! Keep those progress shots coming...! :o

On the reality TV idea.... I was talking to someone from the US a few weeks ago, and they have one over there (I believe only recently on cable TV). A TV show where they follow the progress of a vehicle restoration.... Chevs and the like. Would be an excellent show if it came over here and focused on local cars.
When I heard about it thought it would be an instant hit over here... at least with the guys on this forum. It also sounded like a bit like the videos the streetneat is doing I guess. Not sure if they have a time limit or budgets etc, but it sounded pretty interesting....

Great to hear Hilda is progressing well... love the pix ;)
Cheers

Pay-TV have a couple of "reality" automotive shows. There is one that I am dying to see that follows Chip Foose (well known hot-rodder) as he surprises someone by taking their car and doing an "extreme makeover".

In the mean-time there is Orange County Choppers (www.orangecountychoppers.com) that show a father/son team and their chopper building business.
and
A car is Re-born that follows an funny pom rebuilding an E-type Jag.

Hands off Russ!

We're in the "No Transfer" part of ther restoration season. At the completion of Hilda, the season is over and Sarge becomes a free agent.

I must mention at this point, because of a very onerous contract he signed, the transfer fee is significant!

Also, I do need to inform you that, as Sarge's agent, I receive 40% of all negotiated remuneration. That includes beer, NOS parts or any other discreet forms of payment.  ;)

Well just a quick note to bring you all upto date.

Lower section of "A" pillar & sills to go & Hilda will be right to paint. I would think that with in the next two or three weeks, Hilda should have some colour back in her cheek's. Then it's just amatter of putting her back together & presto one Happy Emu & One P*#sed off Kiwi.  ;D
Now isn't this just Wonderful news Kiwi.  :-*

COME ON AUSSIE COME ON COME ON

Sarge:-  willing to work 7days a week & 24 hrs a day if need be.

Sarge,
You guys are just awesome, but you should slow down on the updates a bit. The Kiwi will be getting jealous enough to start  taking shortcuts to catch up and it won't be a fair comparison between Kiwi's paper mache and your good ole Aussie steel repairs.
My white rocket is in the shed now as the V8 project begins. Being winter down here I've already bashed a few throbbing knuckles as they slip off spanners, so it won't be moving along as fast as you blokes up there on the luvely GC.
Like Hilda, I'm missing the right hand bottom A pillar section on my beast, so if you've got nothing to do and want to make up 2 of that side (specially the outside curvy bit), I'd be a roolly appreciative customer :D
Keep up that good work but backdate your updates so you can frighten the b'jeezis out of Kiwi when it's done.
cheers,
Leigh

This is the bottom of one of the guards. Who needs crappie Rust Repair sections when Sarge can do this?

Another shot of the same guard, after significant welding by Sarge.

In hindsight, the old girl shooda had one of Kiwi's bullets!
Every time I fork out some bucks for the 'Ol girl, I console myself by saying, that she should have been dead. If it wasn't for me biting off too much, she'd probably never have seen the road again.

Emu will not allow a radio on as this distract's the troop's from the job at hand. So that game last night doesnt count & will be replayed at the completion of Hilda's makeover. I will not make you wait till Sarah's makeover is done. For with a Kiwi In control thats going to take a while.

It's the front part of the inside sill where the sub frame & the bottom of the guard bolts on. Same as the left side one thats in the vice. The bendy bits that goes at the bottom of the "A" pillars are made & laying under the car. Tomorrow we cut out the old then weld in these bits & bobs, then weld on those nice new outer sill section you got & then its up to KEV to work his magic. Once Hilda's painted bolt her back together, & let's go curzin.

Here's a shot of the left sill at the end of Sarge's day s work.

I may point out Kiwi bird that you have a hide complaining about the nasty weather that you claim has slowed you down over there.
You may not know, but while Sarge was working today a light sirrus cloud was reported over the Gold Coast at about 2.35pm. Hundreds of people reported seeing it!
Not only that...... our Sarge and Kev worked under conditions where the temperature hovered around 22 to 24 degrees all day. Talk about inclement. It was a bugger of a day!

One of the miracles of this project is the adoption of Hilda by a guard-possum called "Killer"
Kev, the painter, claims its a dog but Sarge and I are not buying that!

You judge for yourselves.

Slim,

"Killer"  just crept out of the trees and adopted "Hilda"

Don't be deceived, he's not called Killer for nothing, if a Kiwi somehow ended up  near Hilda it'd be decimated in a second!

Actually, our famous Kiwi is visiting here in a few weeks.... I may test "killer's" reaction time on him. Apparently he is a bit larger than your standard Kiwi, still..... no match for the guard possum I suspect.

Wel Ladies & Gentlemen & Kiwi
Sorry it has been so long between updates, but I have been busy else where for the last week or so & my leader has be out boating for the week. We both figured that Hilda was going so well that we could just kick back for a bit of a rest.
Well today the last of the welding was finished on the rust repair side of Hilda, all thats left to weld now is the mounting plates for the seat belts and this will be done on Friday. So now its over to the painter, then Hilda will be on show to all.

Cheers

P.S Sorry Kiwi but you never stood a chance.  ;)

EMU
Thanks for reminding me about the little fat bird. Be "shore" not to leave him alone with Hilda. He may get some idea's for his own makeover or should I say makeovers, as he sure has been stock piling of late.

Hope to see you all on wednesday night at the meeting.

Cheers Jim

Hope you enjoy Today looking at that number plate and that chrome half as much as I enjoyed Today with all those paint fumes coming for around Hilda.  :-*

Just remeber those Item's can be replaced, but there is no chance of your FC ever looking anywhere near as good as Hilda.  :) ;) :D ;D lol

You remeber Hilda The car that was part of that challange you put on the forum Aussie's V Kiwi's. Hilda's the Aussie entrant, have you Kiwi's got a car to restore yet, it's just that I havent heard anything about kiwi's extreme make over in so long. : :-* ;D

Thanks old mate, your right about the painting Kevin is the man behind the spray gun. His the guy you see getting out of Hilda. My job is to replace the rust with real metal and to get the car looking straight so Kev can do his magic. Kevin is the main man on this makeover I reckon his done a great job of getting Hilda Straight as a die and a lovely high shine on the colour.

Now you can show Mrs Kiwi what it is she is trying to get your car to look like. When they come up this good, the weekends in the shed are worth it.  ;D

Hey Sarge,

I was over at Kev's just after you. Nice shots. Its amazing how the colour changes in the different lights.

RET,
I didn't end up with the the Royal Marine of your Dad's car. It was just a tad too green.
This colour is eye matched "Crystal Blue". The first shot that Sarge posted here shows the colour in full sun and is prolly the most accurate representation of it.

Never fear groovers, more photos will follow.

Thanks for posting Sarge. U r a ledge.

Kiwi
I think you would agree, We spend a lot of time and money on these cars that we love. So for somebody else to trust you with their car, well lets say it's a great feeling. It's also great to see the look of satisfaction on their face when they see the end result of your work. Knowing that you have helped somebody you regard as a freind restore their car is the greatest feeling of them all.

As for booking me before starting on Harvey, I was of the understanding that Mrs Kiwi was doing your car now. So I had crossed you out of the book, I am sorry if for any inconvenience that this misunderstanding may have cuase you.
If you wish I can put you back in my book for lets say Nov 2005. lol  :P

Talk about the look of satisfaction!! My head looks something like this  ;D

It sure is an exciting time when it gets to this stage.

I have to sit at home and pinch myself sometimes when I think of how we met down at Currumbin Alley beach and how things unfolded from there. Spooky!

Thanks mate.

I sent all the steel chroming to "Coffs Harbour Bumpers" After much research, they seemed the best. They refuse to do any die cast etc as they cannot guarantee the result. I'm stoked, but Sarge will be casting his experienced eye over the goods tomorrow to give it his assessment.
As an indication for all those wondering, I did front and back bumpers (six pieces), over-riders (4 pieces) and a number plate surround (pictured) for about $750.00.

Here's a sample of the work.

I have found a guy at Murwillumbah who does die-cast plating. I found him at "Wintersun" this year. Kev, my painter, has been restoring a BMW and the owner  chased him up and gave him a go on some plastic guard grill euro crappy thingy. He was stoked. So I have sent him the grill, head and tailight surrounds, "Station Sedan" badges, tailgate badge, indicator surrounds, exterior door handles and a gear stick. I originally sent him speaker grill, horn rim and interior doors as well but the bank man knocked me back on a second mortgage for it all so I had to economise!  :-[

Kiwi
I hope the above updates from EMU will prove to you that just because, Emu & I dont spend every passing moment on the internet updateing this post. In no way shows signs of a crack in the friendship. Its just that we have a car to restore (Hilda) and our time is better spent working on the car than sitting on the computer. You would find that if you followed our example that Mrs Kiwi would have more time for the family and your car would be making head way. lol  ;D

So why dont you turn of the computer and ask Mrs Kiwi where the shed is and if she needs any help with restoring your car. :P I am sure that Mrs Kiwi would love that. ;)

Thanks for all the accolades fellas. They all belong to Kev n Sarge.

Yes Trev, I think you r right about the perspex sun visor!

Its been a while since I've updated but apparently "Slowly, Slowly the bird builds its nest" eh Ed.  ;D

Latest Instalment: Rubber.
After much deliberation and searching around, I went for a Rares kit. I know some will be horrified and some will approve.
The rubber has caused Kev n Sarge some grief. The door rubber profile seemed too fat and Kev has spent significant time actually grinding down some of the rubbers to fit. The same problem occured with the tailgate rubber and we still don't have that sorted. The rear quarter glass rubber (not the door quarter glass) were beyond modification and will be sent back along with the cowl vent rubber for an FJ which arrived with the kit.
There were a few bits missing as well.
I think I'll reserve judgement until all the rubbers are in and I can give you an overall impression of the Rares kit.

Here's a shot of the doors with the rubbers fitted but not glued.

Congratulatios on sorting all that rust out. Seems Sarge is not a bad hand on the fabrication front. See you guys didnt need me afterall. ( although I still think a complete cowl cut would have saved many hours of work!)
Its refreshing to see how others deal with these sorts of repairs - considering you guys dont have to do this sort of stuff on a daily basis - you have definetly turned out a fine looking wagon! Just goes to show what mates that get together can acheive...... I dont have that luxury - I normally get roped into fixing others nightmares and the favours quickly forgotten when its recalled. :(
I have been working around the clock on the wifes FC sedan and its in the final paint stages now with the body shell painted ,powdercoating done,Mechanicals all built and detailed. Chrome is still away at the platers and the trimmers have all the interior. Being organised is important - but sometimes these third parties hold  things up by taking forever to get around to doing your job.
Progress for any one interested can be viewed here;
http://gallery.oldholden.com/Mrs-Streetneats-FC
Keep up the good work Emu and team - look forward to seeing the end result - looks great so far!

Hey Streetneat
Thanks for the kind words, coming from somebody that does this sort of thing for a living it means a lot. As for the cowl vent I too would have like to have done a complete cowl vent cut much easyer that way. Emu is over the moon with the end result, just waiting on a few part to finish off Hilda. Emu gave me the wagon that he had as a donor car. So it looks like I may even get to start on this before christmas (so much for retirerment). This is when I get to do a complete cowl vent cut in. I got a really good one off Doug up at Bribbie. I just couldnt bring myself to cut this wagon up any more than Emu already had. It's funny how it all turned out after just running into each other on the beach, with me just asking him if he called his wagon Hilda. Now look I have gotten right back into the restoring of old Holdens again, and made a bloody good friend along the way. Only draw back with Emu comes Kiwi.lol ;D oh and more work than I can poke a stick at, but the friendship is the best part.

Cheers

Ah - your  enthusiasm will start to wane after you start on your own project....unless you get a coffee machine or a resident emu to keep your caffeine levels up!- ask Emu if or when you cark it from hardening of the arteries from all that caffeine - if he would be so good to carry you off to the morgue in the fiinished wagon....Kiwi could be the chuaffer- after all what are mates for? ;D
Morbid bugger arent I?......
Should you need any cowl cuts or other prime cuts of FC then bear in mind I keep a selection of the finer cuts on hand.
Of course Emu would be keeping you as a freind - you get a lot of friends when you donate great lumps of your time  for Holden restoration ::)

Hey Emu & Sarge,
It's a pity I didn't get the chance to come and see Hilda while we were up there the other day........she's looking great!!
I see you also have one of my other great loves in the shed, I'm also an EH owner (& proud of it!!).

You're both doing a great job by the looks of things, can't wait to see Hilda at Jindabyne.

Cheers,

Graham

Hey Streets,
Yep thanks for the nice words for Sarge and don't forget Kev, the painter. Your thoughts are much appreciated coming from a Master.

Morbid - yes but what better way to be carried off?

Possibly a bit cynical too. I'd like to think the Sarge and I became mates because of our common interest in FE/FC's (amongst other things). I didn't MAKE him my mate so he could work on Hilda. That would be like me suggesting your wife only married you so you can restore an FC for her!  ;D She didn't did she  ???

Thanks again.

Emu

I cant think of a better send off can you. Just for the record, Emu and I were mate's before I offered to help with Hilda. Just as we will be for a long time to come. Working on Hilda has never been a problem for me, a mate needed a hand and I had two to spare. As for Kiwi being the chuaffer I dont think he is able to reach the pedals. Oh and as for my own project, thats no problem it's not the first nor will it be the last. With Emu makeing the coffee and taken the photos and Kev with his spray gun it wont take long at all.

Graham
Your right, It would have been good to catch up. May-be next time. Emu can bring Hilda and I can bring Bella, hopefully.

Emu
Sorry for hijacking your post, and dont worry nobody who has meet Kevin could forget him. The Good blokes always stick with you.

No -no Emu - hardly cynical of  your friendships -- It quite plainly shows that you have some very loyal mates. I found reading all your posts  quite refreshing  to see how you tackled adversity with a little help from your friends - which you are obviuosly greatful for.
I chose to do what I do - owning a business is going to make me slightly cynical of 'mates' that show up and want things done for nix  - some of course mistake Charity as a  sign of weakness and want to exploit it  in my case - but the fun of having mates around to build projects  and help consume  beverages is what makes life and projects that much more enjoyable.Makes for good reading too!
We are still working on the mystery of why my wife married me......some questions are best left un answered  ;D
Your car is the same Colour scheme that my wifes started out as - we chose to do something a little different but for the same reasons as yourself.
Like you I built ( and still building) the wifes car to replicate a car from my childhood. When finished I will park it across the road in the same spot  where the old one sat for a piccy - it means bugger all to any one else but myself - but thats the motorvation for it. Its a race against time though - the neighbors have moved out and the farm is being developed.....so far there has been little tearing up of the property.
Cant say we have come up with  names for our FC's  ours are just called the Custom, the ute , and mummies car.....or just the FC in each ones case - which does get confusing.
Maybe I should just  stick to just reading posts - I seem to have a track record for having to qualify my comments on this board LOL.
Cheers and good luck streetneat.

I can understand where you are coming from with some of your comments as rebuilding cars is your business & your income & in business if you keep doing jobs from people for nicks you wouldn't be in buseness very long. But most of the people using this site are just people how share a comment interest in FE/FC'S & often mates just helping mates which is a good old aussie custom.

Thanks for the kind words Glenn and Norm.

Jim, I'll get some photos happening soon.

Hilda is at the trimmers as we speak. I bought a NOS headlining on Ebay (thanks for the "Heads Up" Geoff) and it was beautiful. By the middle of next week she will have new side panel cards for the cargo bay complete with speakers, new vinyl over the wheel arches back there, new headlining and wind lacing of course, new kick panels up front.
Hilda had no sound/heat proofing under the dash. I'm looking for a more effective way of doing that with the trimmer. Often they'll run underfelt up there and carpet over. I am going for rubber mats in Hilda as she is essentially a surf wagon and will be employed taking my 4 boys the surf most weekends. I think the rubber mats are more practical.
Soooo the trimmer has suggested running underfelt all over there and using vinyl over the top.
Anyone had any experience here?

Watch this space.

Well Guys,

Obviously things have slowed at Hildaville just a little. Sarge, Kev and myself have been occupied with our "Real" lives over the Chrissie period. Sarge is flat out at his "second job" but should be back on board soon. (When he gets his priorities sorted out! ;D .........something about feeding his kids and paying bills or something  ;) )

I wanted to post a couple of pics of the things I mentioned last post. This one is my NOS Ebay Hoodlining. I still get excited just looking at this pic. What a great score!! I shooda cleaned off the dust in these fotes to give a better reflection of Hilda.

Let me know if you hear of another. The last one that came up was a grey one, but I need an off-white like yours.

Hilda is looking great, well done.

Mrs. Streetneat's sedan has had a non original replacement headlining fitted but the material appears to look very similar to the original - the best i have seen anyway, and IMHO much better than a damaged old one or plain vinyl type.

Yeah Craig,

That's the best repro I have seen. There was another NOS one on Ebay shortly after I picked up mine. "cajerridoc" who frequents this site picked it up I believe.

Here's a shot of the side panels in the cargo bay I had made as well as the vinyl over the wheel arches.

That dust is really annoying me! I'm going to be using rubber mats in the back here.

Don't worry about the dust. When you're finished a quick trip outside with a soft paint brush, some rags, and an air blower and all will be OK.

Looks really good though - except for the dust  ;)

Hmmm seems some one has been looking at the wifes car - we got nearly no response from this site except for one from Emu.....
The hoodlining is from Eastern Auto Upholstery in Bayswater Vic. ASk for Gary and tell 'em streetneat sent ya.
The hoodlining is only available in this one style and colour - although not identical to the original - its along the same style. Its very expensive - enough material to do this car was about $400 worth......then you have to get it made up and fitted. The trimmers did a splendid job and bitched a bit about the material - apparantly not easy to work with. Its from the UK and I'm not sure how much Gary has.
Thanks Craig A for the credits. We have no problem with the use of any of our pics for what ever purpose as long as People do as Craig has and attribute the credits for where the pics came from.
Cheers streetneat

Very well done mate! ( seeing as you were one of the very few to compliment mrs streetneats car when it was finished - I wasnt going to let you get away with out returning the compliment!)
Honestly you must be well chuffed to finally have it on the road and nearly finished. Hope you find the missing bits. The  result from your pics thus far shows  someone -or more likely several somones knew what they were doing! Excellent job!
I bought the wife another FC project at Toowoomba swap in Febuary...a windowless  FC van (comes with the solid sides to return it to windowless anyhow)
seems we are not done  playing with FC's yet!
One question I have is did the Vans share the same cardboard  cargo sides as the wagons? Or are they supposed to be steel?
Cheers streetneat

Emu I think Streetneat is onto something, get Kat a  project car of her own, then we can do Harvey for the newest FC lover in the Emu nest, Now that the young Lady is driving, a car is a must and Harvey is in preety good shape to start with. ;D

Hey thanks Streets for the compliments. Yep Sarge n Kev obviously knew what they were doing.

Here's a pic of the cargo sides I had made, complete with new speakers. I had the vinyl wheel arches made at the same time. You can see the wooden spare wheel covers Sarge made.
I am going to cover the floor area here with some custom made mats to match the front repros I am gettiing from "Obsolete Rubber"

One of the incomplete features of Hilda is shown here. The floor mats. I am going for the rubber rather than carpet coz Hilda's number one purpose is as a daily driver and that involves surf trips with the boys. We are on the beach just about every weekend with "Nippers" and free surfing.

We may even see some roof racks on the old girl although Sarge and Kev have coniptions when I say that!  :o

Kim & Emu
You most certainly get a few thumps up and head snaps when you go for a drive in an FC.

Fashions has turned itself back in time, my wife went shopping the other day, she normaly tells me to get out of the 1950, when she got home from her shopping she appolagies and said that I was with the time and every thing RETRO is on its way back in, cloths, cars, white goods, music, furiture and more.

So enjoy your cars and let all others admire.

Cheers Jim

Well done Emu, Sarge & Kev!!

I have been watching this project progress & have loved every minute of it. I was sure I had posted something earlier, but it doesn't look like I did. Truly inspirational, what a few mates & a cool car (Maybe some time & a few $$$$) can result in!

Glad to be part of the wagon clan. So many nice ones out there, with yours, Fast-Eddies & Ed Ho's on the go. We may have to start  our very own "Wagon Nats"! Hold it at the beach with a Surf carnival theme (Beach babes included).

Anyway, again, great job. Love it!!

The FC looks just Soooooooooo good ......

Yes there is a CD player hidden in the glove box. Something special eh?  Feels like Christmas.  ;)

Thanks for the kind words about Hilda. Its great to have her driving. Still one or two little things to do until she's done. Actually there will prolly always be one or two little things to do.

Good point about the "posts n views" We may even hit 8000 views before this thread finally dies and drifts into that great abyss, where all old threads spend eternity.

Well of all the time that was spent on Hilda I only have one regret. That is the day Emu got in her to turn the key, I didnt have my camera with me talk about a kid in a candy store. That grin will haunt me forever. Emu if this does make some sort of record you deserve it just as you deserve Hilda, it was great working with you as you didnt put the pressure on at any time but was there evrytime you where needed.

Cheers mate and hope you and the family have many a happy mile and create many a happy memory in Hilda.

Hey Kev,

Good to see ya popping up on the site!

I'm surprised it took ya so long with all those cyber-literate technophiles at the Peck residence  :)

Good onya Plucka...... I mean Pecka.

I'll post some final shots of Hilda when mats and the last badges arrive.

Well Hidla come's back into the shop today for part two of her make over. Matt's had heaps of mechanical problems. So know it's time to fix them once and for all and make Hilda a more user friendly daily driver. ;)

Cheers

Harko,

Crack me up or what!! Geez I've missed that.

Hey all. I've been somewhat absent from the site with my businesses sucking most of the life out of me and my six kids finishing the job!   :(

I was waiting to completely finish Hilda before posting a series of fotes. I have recently received my rubber mats from "Obsolete" which although excellent in quality, took forever to arrive. (Leave lots of lead time if you are planning on purchasing from Obsolete).

I don't know whether I posted my Chrome story. The summary is, I sent away a huge load of chrome to a local bloke who moved away with my stuff to set up business in Warwick and then unfortunately he passed away. A year or so later I am still trying to retrieve it.
Sarge has set up Hilda with loaner chrome and bits I have snavelled from various sources.

Update: We have obtained an HR front end and a 186 which are being prepared for my girl. Sarge is replacing the steering box, installing mats and some badges that have never been in place since the chrome drama and doing some tidying up.

I'll try to get some fotes posted to continue the never ending epic of "Hilda's Extreme Makeover"

Yours truly
Cecil B DeEmu.

I told you all what a legend Sarge is with the metal work!

I hope he can put Hilda back the way he found her when he's done.

Very good call Stinky.
That's two good belly laughs in the last few posts.

Stinky
That Fait is a 1971 Two door coupe BMW 2002 Touring. The owner said that only 300 odd where made and thats theres only something like 4 or 5 in Austaralia.  :-/ It's not a Holden so who really cares anyway ???. The only good part about its is the surchage we get to put on the bill for it not being a Holden ;D ;D.

I tried to post pics of the Motor before I fitted it but am having a few problem with the pics, so bear with me.

Cheers

Kev's having deja vu.

He's put his hand up to assist in my FC project, "Pubfinder"

It's still getting new sills, floor and door skins as we speak, requires reassembly and completion and we are 44 days out from The Nationals. We are on an "Overhaulin'" type timeframe to get it finished and across 4 states to Mount Gambier.

I think on our current time frame, he's going to get about 2 days to paint. Lucky he has a wealth of experience to fall back on :) ...... or maybe we'll just come down in primer... :D

Cheers
