Title: Roof gutter strips
Post by: brett_f on October 16, 2022, 10:03:14 AM
Hi Guys,
I have three sets of roof gutter strips. Good condition but all could do with a polish. Hard to get and in this condition. Make an offer.
Brett

Hi Steve,
Always thought they were original manufacturer issue. Never heard of them being after market but others might know. They are stainless steel. Send me your email address or phone number and I will send you a picture of them.
Regards Brett

They were standard equipment on FE Special Sedans and Special Station Sedans.

There were a number of items like this that were deleted from the FC, such as the boot liner, the bonnet badge, the long name strips on the boot etc, all replaced with cheaper alternatives. Similarly the interior of an FC is less ornate. This was to keep the retail price of the FC the same as the FE it replaced.

Got it in one RET, the FC was (as you have so clearly pointed out) just a cheaper version of the real thing. The mighty FE!  :D

Hey Vern. I always thought that "56 was the First Effort" & "58 was the "Final Concept".

Seeing how FE production continued up until April '58, I agree with the 'final concept' designation.
(Matter of fact, my FE wagon is a '58!  ;))

"Jokes" aside... we all know that both these models are spectacular & much sought after now.  I can clearly recall the 1st FE I saw [Jan 1957].  It was owned by one of the Lecturers @ Armidale Teacher's College. It was cream with a red roof.  We "drooled" over this, wishing we could own one like it. Pretty much all others were  driving FJ Holdens with the odd Hillman, Vauxhall, Chev, Morris & Ford thrown in for good measure. Great memories of life lived @ a more gentle pace.  The demise of the Holden Brand is a Testament to the stupidity of those who made ill informed & short term decisions.

Amen to all of that.
I first developed an interest in these beautiful cars as a kid in the '60's when my Uncle bought himself a white and red (FC) Special Station Sedan.

G'day,

RET you mentioned that the boot lining was deleted for FC production which has prompted me to post a question; so did FE's have panel board liners on either side of the boot that covered the outer guards? I have seen a few pictures and wondered what was going on, anyone have some pictures of what we are talking about.

The boot liner was only in the 1956 FE’s I think. It’s a hessian backed material which was glued to the inside of the rear quarter

This was a 1956 FE that I owned, later FE’s I have owned never had it fitted

The part number is in the FE parts book as 7411343 and 7411344. Then oddly in later parts books the descriptions and numbers have been deleted as if they never existed. The section is 15.222 TRIM - luggage compartment side.
The numbers are in parts history section of the book marked as NLA.
It’s almost as if GMH put them in the early production and then removed them from production and they disappeared as if they had never existed.
Interested to know when they disappear- they are in my 1957 FX to FE book but are not in my FX to EJ book

I don't think this would be in the book I found this amidst a pile of NOS FE FC parts some time ago, there were a few but this was the best surviving example due to the ravages of time
It fits in the boot floor, possibly to protect parts during transport?
I've christened it The Boot Doona

Thanks Ken,

I have been meaning to find out about this. My early FE would have had them fitted as there was remnants of adhesive over the body deadner on the inside of the rear quarters. If anyone still has them fitted I would be keen to see how far they go forward under the rear parcel shelf area so I can reproduce them when I get that far with my resto. Al

Al, my car has the boot lining. I'll try and get a photo of it for you.

(I didn't realise it was deleted pre-FC, thanks for that info, Ken. I knew Faecal didn't have them, but just assumed they were lost along the way.)

cheers
