Title: Radiator/Cooling system queries
Post by: Rabbitoh on October 08, 2022, 02:49:36 PM
Need to get rid of my FE wagon radiator’s scaly contents and don’t want to botch the refill. What are the best recommendations regarding refilling, do I use Type B (premixed) Standard Radiator Coolant, or just tap water with an anti-corrosion concentrate added? The motor currently has no overheating issues and I aim to keep it that way.
(Also planning on using Nulon Radiator Flush & Clean beforehand (after the motor’s at normal operating temperature).

I’ve never used coolant, just water with an additive.
I think to keep having no issues with cooling, the most important thing is to thoroughly flush the block out. There is a small drain tap below the exhaust manifold. Undo it and see if water come outs freely. If it doesn’t then you have sludge in the block.
How thoroughly you clean is up to you.
If you at least get water running through the drain plug that would be good, but you could go as far as removing all the welsh plugs to get between all the cylinders.

Thanks for the helpful advice Ken. Water with an additive sounds good to me.
