Title: What is the fair price for this grey engine ?
Post by: Laszlo on February 07, 2021, 03:51:03 PM
Hello everyone  !

I have a grey  (sorry chrome :) complet engine for sale I just want to find out what is the reasonable price for it.
I had a bit of search on the net. You can find them  from a few hundred dollars (seized one) up  to $3000 for reconditioned one.
Mine is in a good working condition. Was taken out 5 years ago from my Fe. In storage since. Was reconditioned 10 years ago .( I was dobbed in for smoky engine. Wasn't fair, was uphill,  anyway no excuse for the qld transport department)   The reason I had to take out the engine because I replaced  with a v8.

Engine number : J87618 (EJ 138 cubic inch)
Twin Stromberg
Extractor
Mild camshaft (25/65 ?)
Lots of chrome bits on it
Come with an Opel 4 speed gearbox.

Thanks for any advice about the price.

Laszlo

Price varies wildly, depending on how badly the buyer needs one.

Seized motor... about $100.

Freshly overhauled grey... two just sold on the FB/EK forum for $2500 each, from a very reputable seller.

My guess on your motor... perhaps $1000-$1500, mainly for the twin carbs and box being included.

Cheers,
Harv

Thanks Harv!

What do you think if I sell the motor parts separately worth the effort  ?
Maybe I can get more for it. I know lot more time and effort.

You might get a little bit more for it parted out, but it will be a lot harder to sell. The more bits missing, the harder it is to sell it as a runner.

Yes more chance of selling as a runner than half a motor and saying it used to run..keeping it together at least you can do a compression test if asked to and start it up on the ground..

i bought a running ej with hydramitac last year for $750, got it delivered with truckit.net for another $150

pahs59 cant be trusted, he acknowledged i was first in best dressed for his homemade rotisserie for the asking price and then sold it to someone else.

not a big fan of the fuel filter being on the pressure side of the fuel pump. Should that blow, then petrol continues to flow onto the exhaust manifold & then "good luck" from that point on.  Just a suggestion... Kevin.

Thanks Kevin !

I will pass this to the new owner. Sound like I was playing Russian roulette for about 15 years....
So guys thanks again for your input. I sold the engine this morning. I hope the new owner will have years and years smoke free fun with the engine....(not Russian roulette)
