Title: FE bumper
Post by: fe van on June 12, 2020, 06:15:10 PM
Hi all,
Is the rear bumper number plate over rider the same used on the Fe's front bumper? I know there is holes for the number plate bracket does the front FE over rider have the holes or not and did all FE's have them on the front?

Thanks
Darren

Yes it is the same front and rear. Parts book lists both with the same part number.
They were only on the front of specials.
FE utes, vans and standards had the centre bumper bar with the holes for the guard, but no guard fitted.

Also Ken I have an original complete FE wagon tailgate, it has all of its rubbers just wondering does the rubber stop 1/4 of the way down the side? it doesn't look damaged? I want to use this one on the van also I noticed on the upper tailgates the strip for the rubber the FE wagon has screws and the van has spot welds was this just an update during the years?

Thanks Darren

Yep rubber is complete as you have it.
I’ve not seen a tailgate with a spot welded rubber retainer strip. All the ones I had were screwed in. I will have a look in the parts book

Technical term for the part you’re seeking Darren, I believe would be rattle rod pivot bracket. Would be an easy part to make.

Looked through the parts book and found reference to the screw in type. No reference to a change part way through FE. It’s a bit of a mystery.
Interesting to know what other FE vans or wagons have. (Assuming they still have an FE top tailgate and not an FC one)

My FE wagon still has the original rubber strip, and I am not game to pull it out just yet.

Mine also has another rubber strip glued to the top inside of the bottom tailgate.
Darren are you going to use the stainless strip on the top of the bottom tailgate?
I would be very interested in buying it.

Hi Stewy,
Yes I intend to use it as I'm making my van a 2 door wagon, I have all the wagon trims except the roof gutter moulds, I have seen stick on chrome moulding used and it looks fine that'll have to do if I come across another tailgate mould I'll let you know thanks for the pics.

No worries Darren, thanks for the reply.
FE wagons are fairly rare as Holdens only made just over 7 thousand of them.
I went for the grandpa spec on mine.

If you are following that picture it will look like Robins FE wagon. :)

Stewy,
Have you completed restoration of Fergus? I haven’t seen you post anything on this. Come on and share now please? Those photos look great. I missed the all Holden day this year due to work so didn’t catch up.
Cheers

Hi Darren,
I am fairly sure Robin's wagon is "Turquoise" over "Sarasota White"
Clay, I spent all day at this years all Holden day, but without Fergus and FranCine.
Life has gotten in the way as it does, and both need a bit of brake work to get them back on the road again.
Might not be until the weather gets a bit better, and Coffee and Chrome resumes at the racecourse.
Restoration is going to be a bit further down the track, but hope to put the original grey motor back in later this year.
