Title: New FE ute
Post by: Not Happy Jan on March 18, 2020, 01:37:12 PM
Bought this a couple of months ago. This is how it was. Big thanks to Pete Mallaby for putting me onto it.
It wouldn't run. PO had put the 10 fuel in it and had left it for two years. The tank fuel line and carburetter were all gummed up.

I've got it home. I've cleaned out the fuel tank fuel line and put a kit through the
carburettor. I've also changed the fluids and cleaned out the brake and clutch master and slave cylinders. Given it some new plugs.
Oil. She is running like a train. Few little bits and pieces to do here and there but that's the fun of it.

the pain was pretty average but she has buffed up very well. Still in the old acrylic so easy to cut and polish. It's a long process but I'm making my way through it. Just a few bits of rust in the front driver's door for what I can see so far other than that it's very clean.

So is this a 57 or 58 ute. There seems to be some differently stamped numbers on the inspection plate?
And lastly what was the trim and paint colour

What’s the chassis number, this will give the year,
Tag tells that colour is Ascot grey with red interior. Is the number body number 7913?
It’s really hard to read.

Problem with the chassis number.
It starts with 8 which makes it a 1958 model, but there are to many numbers.
The highest number I have recorded for 1958 is 8-22240-S.  but the body number for this car is FC-2106-4280-S

So long story short, chassis number looks like a 1958 model, but with an error on the number and the ID plate is for a 1959 model

It could have had a replacement subframe fitted at some time.
