Title: wheel rims
Post by: my8thholden on April 19, 2019, 06:49:45 AM
Gents..I need two (2) 13'' x 5 stud wheel rims ,obviously in good condition ,to match the three I already have ..stamped inside the rim is ... 13'' X 4.5J 4/64 HOLDEN 42 ,a quick way to tell the strengthing pressings between the stud holes are triangular in shape not a raised dome ,I have a rim stamped 13'' x 4.5JJ 7/73 6S HOLDEN and a circular ring with A over T in it and word Australia in horse shoe shape ,which I would swap/sell for one, they look the same ,but offset is different .I need to replace that one for a set of 4 and a spare.I cant be fussy about the year ,as long as its the same type..Thanks in anticipation Vern..
I can send and receive images on my mobile ,I cant post here ..0405 703 413 ..

Hi Vern,
I have taken some photos and will send have four rims with tyres on them so I can't check the stamping but have the triangular stamping.

Cheers

Vern,

Three of your rims are from an EH (that's why the 4/64) and the fourth is from an LJ Torana (hence 7/73).

One not-often-appreciated thing is that Torana and HT-G rims damage standard brake drums.  The original brake drums have slightly raised sections between the stud holes (the triangular pressings in the original wheel rims clear them).  But Torana rims bear down on the hub around the full circle, and when you tighten the wheel nuts down, the rim deforms the drum.

Hi Rob and Corey ..That is very interesting about the LJ Torana rim  .I did not know about the effect it has on the FC brake drum ,I just noticed the pressing differences and offset difference ,so thanks for the advice on a potential problem ..So any one out there need a LJ Torana rim???? I am in discussions with Corey on rims he has ..thanks Vern ..
