Title: Front sway bar mounting brackets
Post by: ACT59FC on November 11, 2017, 10:31:41 PM

I was wondering if anyone had two sway bar mounting brackets, I was working underneath my car and was surprised to see that the sway bar had come away from the mounting brackets and was swaying in the breeze. Mine were so thin they just flex away from the tab hole. I need two good ones to get the sway bar  re mounted.

Regards Rod.

Rod,

I've probably got a couple, but . . .
Did your existing brackets pull free from the subframe at the tab end, leaving the bolt attached, and the bracket bent?
This may indicate more serious problems.  There could be fatigue cracking around the slots where the sway bar bracket tabs engage in the subframe.  Or (worse) the subframe has rusted and weakened to the point where the tabs have pulled through.

Check your subframe first to see if the metal at the front edge of the slot has been pulled downwards.  Or, stick a big screwdriver into the slot and lever the handle rearwards while watching to see if there's any flexing of the metal around the slot.  You'll notice any cracks pretty quickly.

Hi Rob all good with the subframe, the brackets were so rusty there is no strength in them, one tab has completely rusted away te other so thin it just isnt doing the job.
