Title: FC sedan tow bar & helper leaf springs
Post by: Philby on June 12, 2017, 11:07:42 PM
Hi All,

My vintage caravan is finished and I'm looking to set the FC up for towing.

Looking for s suitable tow bar and helper springs.

Any advice on what other things I need to consider is welcomed.

Prefer CBR and surrounds, but easy freight okay too.

Cheers. Phil

If you have access to a wagon wreck, wagon rear springs are a good straight swap to beef up a sedan rear.
Ute or van springs can also be used if you take out the last of the leaves.

Thanks Mark and Ken.

Mark - I'll be in touch. I have some friends who travel through the Bay regularly. We can see if it falls in line.

Ken - Thanks for the advice. I'll check look around.

Hi Philby
Have you thought of air assisted shocks (if they still make them) that way you can beef them up when towing and reduce the pressure when not.

I would not recommend the gas shockers because the upper shock mounts on FE FC tend to be a little weak and the shocks can damage the floor

Ken is correct . I have had the rear shock panels tear completely out of the boot floor after hitting a wash out in western Qld and wouldn't use double action again without reinforcing the mounting points . Rhs across between rails .

Thanks for the tow bar Mark. My mate picked it up from your son over the weekend.

Just a quick question, the plates on each side seem to align well to the bumper mounting bolts, gen there are two tabs. One seems to align to a bolt hole well but the other doesn't. Any idea if that's normal and only one is needed or if i need to drill another?

Cheers,

Phil

Hi Phil, hard to recall how it was when I took it off! Maybe fe is different to fc? I would probably drill more holes. Cheers Mark

One tab aligns the other doesn't, don't panic!
