Title: FE FC high note horn and recent wreck find
Post by: texmorton on December 22, 2015, 02:28:38 PM
G'day all,

I recently removed a horn from an FB wagon that is not an original FB EK horn and is a high note horn off of something.
The mounting bracket is not quite right to be the mirror image of the standard FE FC horn for fitting to the right side (looking forward in the drivers seat) but it does tick some of the boxes from my research on this site:

- single screw holding dome cap on
- "H" cast into the outlet trumpet
- wires go into a slot in the housing

What do you think, yes or no.

Also of interest I recently found this wreck and stripped what was worth taking. I already have a wreck with most of the Detroit trim kit intact, hopefully what I got off of this one will make up the full kit for the eventual restoration of my other FE sedan.

Yes the bracket looks FJ to me as well. FE FC high note horn does not have a screw in the middle, the back pushes on like the low note horn. The wires do go through a slot in the side and are about 500 mm long with a two pronged fitting which goes under the screws on the low note horn.

The FE looks a nice colour, did you manage to get the ID plate details off it?

Regards.   Ken

...pretty sure it's an RVB, whereas factory dual note horns were supplied by Lucas ??

The Lucas (Looks like Lucas) horns were fitted to English cars, but would probably do the job

G'day,

Thanks for your replies. The horn is a Lucus brand for a bit of extra info. Were high note horns available on FX - FJ's and in which case is that what it is off?

Ken, it would have been a nice looking car eh, body number is 8 44009M for your records. I must get a few more to you from my own stash of wrecks

Thanks again.

...FX-FJ horns were 6 volt.... I don't think they would take having 12 volts through 'em ?

The wires look plastic coated so wouldn't be FX or FJ would it?
Maybe it could be from an English car such as Vauxhall or Austin. Does it have a 6v or a 12v anywhere on it?

G'day, I assume it to be 12v as Mcgyver'd onto a FB but have not tested it. the wiring is none original as somebody has rewired and possibly put another mount on it when fitting it to the FB so don't really know what the story is. It definitely has a "H" cast into the housing which I have not seen on a lot of other twin horn sets for other makes and models so leads me to believe it was an accessory horn for something. Thanks for your help. Al
