Title: Tyres to suit original rims?
Post by: 56Relic on October 24, 2011, 11:18:41 PM
Is it possible to get tyres to suit the original 13" rims? I have just bought an original condition '57 FE with the old cross ply tyres which are a bit sad! I would like to keep it as Stock as possible but have drawn a blank so far matching the size /aspect/rim combination.Any suggestions?

I'm running 185/75R13 on standard rims.  My speedo agreees with my GPS indicated speed.

Hi 56Relic,

Antique Tyres at Ingleburn NSW have 6.40 x 13 crossply tyres back in stock, the number is
02 9618 2788

They get them from Antique Tyres in Melbourne

I think 185 80 13's are closest to the original cross ply's     I've got maxxis white walls, but i'm pretty sure they do black walls as well            Dave

I'm running 175/80/13 which I thought would be closer to the original specs..... I've not calculated it though. I have a 185 on my spare and it's a very tight fit in the spare wheel well in my FE wagon. The 175's seems to hold the road ok but I'm sure the 180 or 185's will be just that bit more sure footed.  Cheers Moe`t

Snuff is correct 185/80/13 is the closest in rolling diameter to the original 540x13 crossplys.

If the car is a stockie and you're running the original 3.89 diff, tyre size is critical if you want to cruise comfortably at 90-100kph.
Cheers
