Title: Roof Gutter Stainless Strips
Post by: Glenn 'Stinky' Stankevicius on February 24, 2003, 12:01:18 PM
Can anyone offer any advice on removing the stainless trim from the roof gutters, I want to polish it and put it back when the car is painted, so a non-destructive method is prefered.

Thanks.

Hi Stinky, From memory when I did my FE I was advised to use a stubby straight edge screwdriver & hammer, working very slowly & carefully, starting at the front.

Once you get it started you only have to tap it here & there, be extra careful at the corners & in the middle.

Good luck! Regards Gary. ;)

Gary is correct, the idea is to try not to let the screw driver go under the strip but just push the edge of the strip away.
The other idea is to stop the stripe from bending as much as possible hence tapping lightly and along a 6 inch length at a time.

Here's my 3 cents worth,if the trim aint all that bad and it just needs a polish and your scared of damaging it  whilst trying to get it off  try masking off the roof and door areas and hitting the trim with a mini buffer,
Like i said it's only 3 cents worth
