Title: Dunstan and Waggot Heads - PICTURE HEAVY - NON DIAL UP ONLY!!!
Post by: CraigA on March 01, 2009, 06:58:09 PM
I went up to the Bathurst Motor Racing Museum yesterday and stumbled across these two rare pieces of history tucked away in a corner.

To see one of either of these is a rare thing, but to see them sitting next to each other was a treat. ENJOY  :o

Wow, good stuff. That Dunstan rotary valve head is really something.

Another reason to come to the 13th Nationals in Orange, which will include a visit to the Bathurst Motor Racing Museum.

cheers
RET

Wow, how good are those motors, it would be really something to actually hear them run.

Just another thing to look forward to in Orange ;)

Good stuff Craig, thank you.

With the revs both of these engines were capable of how did they hold the bottom end together?

Cheers
John

Now that's a beautiful peice of engineering (x2), I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd give almost anything to have that under the bonnet, the twin cam looks like it wouldn't be too much trouble to fit, the extractors would probably go out through the firewall and it already has a fuel pump with a vacuum wiper setup, who knows at those rpms the wipers might even work ;D.

FWIK these heads were really designed for Hydroplane and race car use (Sprintcars & Holden 'Specials') so under-bonnet fitment wasn't a drama.

There is a black FX around with a Waggott headed grey installed and its strange to see an early Holden with a full engine bay.

That car actually belongs to the Waggott family. It's well worth a look if you get the chance.

Here are some pics of the Waggot engine in the Centaur Waggot, now based in Warwick Q, and raced in sprints.  Originally owned I think by John French.    Looks, sounds, and goes pretty good.    Mike

Here are some pics of the Dunstan in a speed boat from a magazine article I have.   Imagine the noise if you were sitting in the boat right behind those pipes..     Mike

Here's a bit more Waggott.
The MyerWaggott special from the 1957 Australian Grand Prix.

Another pic of this car. Don't ya just love that screwdriver, looks like it came straight out of a Holden toolkit.

Ret just interested in why you say the "FX" is or was owned by the Waggott's. When it was advertised for sale it wasn't the Waggotts trying to sell it?

Thanks for the pics Alex, that engine doesn't look out of place at all, in fact the engine bay finally looks complete, I can think of one place it would look better though, under the bonnet of my wagon :D :D

Thanks for the pictures Alex, I guessed that you would have pictures of it. You never cease to amaze me!

Must be an amazing car to drive.

That's the information that was on the display board when the photos Alex has posted were taken (IIRC). I've got some very similar - the car was on display at the Shannons Eastern Creek Classic. Mind you, that's a few years ago now - 2006 I think.

cheers
