Title: FE windowless van project
Post by: Tom_H on July 26, 2008, 07:08:16 PM
Hi all,

Here is a picture of an FE van shell I bought a few months back. I recently took some photos of it next to an FC van I had at the time but have now sold. The floor in the FE is very rusty but I have in mind to build something a bit radical and different so will most likely replace the entire floor with something late model to get the larger tunnel and seat fixing points all in one.

I thought it was nice to see two vans side by side...One a daily driver and one waiting for the kiss of life

Regards, Tom

Not a bad idea replacing the entire floor from a late model, the FJ in the recent Perfomance Holdens had the same thing done. Kills a few birds with one stone.

Must have been hard to sell a perfectly goood working van, just to start from scratch with the shell.
The idea for a new fllor is good.
The black ute at MotorEx had this done and it worked well.
Good luck with the project.

Title: FC van wreck Bendigo - Post Office Red
Post by: DJ on April 21, 2020, 04:22:49 PM
Question from Tom ................... see below - two photos from years ago of some wrecks that were in Bendigo Vic.

With the lockdown I have been organising my mess of photos and realised that this FC van wreck is actually a Royal Mail Van (the description I found when trying to research its ID plate.
Now that I am looking closer there is Post Office Red paint remnants in the subframe and ID plate.
My real question is about the code. It is FC2104SIO-7218-A
Stamped exactly like that. I am curious as to the SIO part?
Anyway, I hope you might post these in the forum and enquire if Ken has these numbers in his list.
Appreciated,
Tom

Yep, I visited this van when it was in the wrecking yard years ago.
On the ID plate it actually reads FC2104S10-7218-A
The S10 and the S8 refer to the modifications done at the factory to convert it to a mail van.
I think the S10 refers to body mods and the S8 refers to the special paint colour.

The body mods are:
Door pull handles
Ryco oil filter
Chain on petrol tank cap
Anti theft spring in fuel filler neck
Radio interference suppressors fitted

The paint mods are
Post office red paint on outer and inner panels
Wheels in black enamel

FC 2104 S8 has no passenger side door and custom made seat and rear trimming
FC 2104 S9 was special for Tasmania and had a custom made front seat and rear trimming. It had the door.

There is a member on here GMAN doing up a PMG postal van
he might be able to tell you about rear suspension
l think the seat was a wooden type ,that you could slide across so you would  not have to get out of drivers door
 for safety .
would be nice if someone had interior pics

I know a fellow who is doing a PMG FB van, Gary Carr at Tea Tree Gully. It has the same mods to the petrol tank, chain for the cap, and anti theft spring.
