Hi Guys,
Not so sure about FE-FC colours.  Tried to find my car colour "Desert Tan", and it was not there!

Very light on in the early Holden colours - Ascot Grey, Olinda Green and Wangarra Grey are the only FE-FC ones I saw in there, and there were only a couple earlier (48-FJ).

Wasn't that the site where the bloke got bent all out of shape over links to "his" video content?

cheers

We'd better not tell him then, it's not like I copied it and posted it here.

I thought the link would help as it gives the info for modern codes, when I called the number for PPG as RET recommended the guy gave me a couple of codes to use which are listed in the tables.

Would anyone have the recipe for Castle Grey Paint code 7698.   Went to Metro Refinishers to get some mixed only to find that their national computer record has no listing for Castle Grey 7698 nor for Corsair Tan 7699.    :-[   Mike

I now have this thread saved in favorites.

Hi All.  I know that a lot of people have a request such as the one i am making but I lloked at a FC Sedan yesterday nad was hoping someone could give me a clue as to if the paint was original and if not the what should it be.  The plate reads: BODY ID: FC225-8701-S, TRIM: 197-653, PAINT: 253-2047.
I believe the "2047" refers to the green located as the main body colour being OLINDA GREEN but could not find a reference to the "253". The car is black over green and the black is fading and can see the same colour green under neath.  Was this normal in the painting process to paint over the main colour with another.  The plate also has what appears to be stamped 10P in the lower right hand corner? Any reference? I presume the FC225 is FC BODY SPECIAL SEDAN - 8701 is build number from factory in SYDNEY "S".  If this is incorrect also please advise. It was last registered expiring in May 1980 so rough from lying around but a good solid body and appears to be a dry chassis.(http://)

Thanks in advance

Jase

Jase, the car is originally a one colour Olinda Green car - the black was added later to liven it up a bit, the fact the the black is now wearing through shows that it was just a flash over, maybe by a car yard to make a sale.
The 253 refers to the type of paint - nitrocellulose lacquer.

I believe you will find that the word in the bottom right corner is "TOP" - this is where the second colour is stamped if it had one from the factory.
You are correct with your body number interpretation.

If you go back to look, can you find the chassis number as well please

Regards  Ken

Thanks Ken.  Were there many Specials that were the one colour.  I thought it was only (Business) standard sedan that were the one colour.  Am I correct that the 225 refers to a special or has it had badges and strips put on it to dress it up?Also how can i tell the year of the vehicle.  Is it simply by the build number and if so what were the changeover points.  Cheers All

Pull together all the details of your car and punch them into the ID plate decoder ($2).

It will tell you everything you're asking. But yes, 225 is a Special Sedan. The chassis number or the original engine number can be used to date the car with reasonable accuracy.

Ok , my mate did some running around (ppg) for a test can of Cape Ivory and from what we can tell , if you contact Sentry Automotive Solutions, in sydney they use to make all the old holden paint that you use to buy by the 1ltr can. hope this helps someone.

Hi,

Do you have a number for them as yellow pages doesnt seem to have them listed.

Went to the local paint shop and they said if i had a bolt with some paint on it they could match it. unfortunately i have none and if i did find one 50 years of aging probably wouldnt be a good comparison.

Hi, I know this is an old thread but was hopeing it could be helpful.
I am looking to paint my car Barbados Green 15827/1C011 (1974), I have spoken to PPG and they are not able to find this colour at all. Does anyone know what the International standard code is or should PPG really be able to find this easily?
Thanks

I dont believe starters were ever Orange on Grey engines ,either 6V or 12V ,if you have one it was probably from a commercial engine ,for example in a compressor , cement mixer etc ..if you have one clean some of the orange off to reveal black ..or look on the underside where it was probably sprayed in situ for where orange meets black .In our museum we had a Broomwade Compressor with a grey engine ( EJ ) all painted yellow ....Vern ..

Hi Thanks for the info.
When I checked a site advising colors Bosch was not mentioned as Orange but he FJ I have is fully original and starter is Orange so wanted to maintain it. If consensus is it should not be orange I'll change and paint in original color as per Bosch specs.

FJs had the starter motor, distributor body, generator and voltage regulator cover painted orange, and the wiring harness was wrapped in orange tape.

G'Day Rob,
Thanks for this it looks like it aligns with image I have of an FJ Engine bay.
How do I load an image onto this page?

Vern,

You may have solved a mystery for me, I acquired an EJ grey motor painted yellow some time ago!

I thought it was a Yella Terra job but the head work says stock
