Thats a scarce one mate, FE Wagons are very thin on the ground, where did you find it.

Looks like a nice colour scheme too going by the seat colours, are you going to return it to it's original colour/s ?

Venetian shade package as well as wind deflectors!

Nice pick up!

Good luck with it, look forward to the progress pics Cheers, Gary

got it from Beaudesert (qld) and as for the colours well lets just say it wont be blue and white like to other 2,this one will be white and blue........got keep them all the same colours.

just 40, Have you cornered the market on blue & white paint  :)

You should break the mould with this one and paint it back to original.

Give it to your favorite offspring.

The FE 229 is a fairly scarce beast, do a search on the site.

Having said that I am sure what ever you do it will look good

Cheers, Gary

PS we got our FC Ambulance from Beaudesert, from under a blokes house!

well, new floors are in and found a good fuel tank that only needs a sender.but i had to make a bit more room,so i knocked out the back wall under the deck and now i get 4 cars in here.

but bless me father as i have sinned,my 4th car is a H/Q ute as i need a daily driver soon and this looked ok for my needs.

I''l say. :o :o :o

They look so round!! :o :o

I think that when you knock them into a square shape, the lens might need to be ground to suit.  Which way square by the way?  Diamond or square?

Title: Re: next.....
Post by: Just40 on August 24, 2008, 04:23:28 AM
autobarn sell the headlights, they are a semi seal beam light and with good h4 bulbs they are a good combinations. i have seen some on ebay but i dont know if they are as good as these ones.

Well, after being painted for nearly 8 weeks the car is about 40% covered in crazy cracking. :-\

Post by: cruiser056 on August 31, 2008, 07:24:53 PM
John,
You must be shattered!  Have you used the same painter for all of your cars?  The thought of having to go back to square one for repainting would upsetting.  If you need any help, yell out!! Happy to give a hand if you need it.

Michael

Did this car go back to bare metal???? What hardener did you use normal or fast ?????......FC427......

Title: Re: next.....
Post by: Just40 on September 01, 2008, 08:30:57 AM
thanks for the offer michael but i dont know if i am going to keep it now, all the glass and interior is in and i washed the dust off thats how i found the cracking.
the car was taken back to bare metal and sprayed with acrylic paint but the cracking is only in the red and not the white, so it must a fault with the red. but it still dont change it  :'( :'( :'(

Hi John,

So sorry to hear that the paint is cracking, I repainted the flares on my Landcruiser and they cracked, apparently because I used acrylic over 2 pak, I have to take them back to the gel coat before I paint them again.

I don't see why it is cracking if you have used the same type of paint, still doesn't change the fact that it has.

If I wasn't so far away I too would offer to come and help, at the moment best I can do is wish you good luck with it, and hope that you don't give up on it.

Regards

Keith

Just 40 I wonder if they mixed Base coat tinter in with the Acrylic tinter's when they mixed the paint, is it Motor Spray Brand , Spartin ??? ??? ??? ??? ???........FC427.........

Title: Re: next.....
Post by: NosFEratu on September 01, 2008, 12:59:35 PM
Hi John

Might possibly be a bad batch of paint as you suggest – we had the same issue with Spartan acrylic many many moons ago (bare metal respray too) and hairline cracks appeared all over the rear guards within 2 weeks of the paint being finished.  Spartan recalled the paint and offered to pay for cars to be resprayed if need be but despite repeated requests for him to contact Spartan the painter chose the “do nothing” option!  >:(

I empathise with you – it really, really sucks!  :'(

Kathi  I sprayed a silver Rambler Matadore in Spartin and it went dead flat and crazed within two months and only got refunded the cost of the paint never used Spartin [made by Wattyl] again  and they are one big mother of a car to paint twice ......FC427.....

Hi John,

Sounds terrible mate, sorry to hear it.

hope you can stick it out and fix her up.

those diamond headlights are excellent.  I used some on my wagon and they were on almost on par with modern car headlights... a damm sight better than the piddly yellow sealed beam light anyway.

Mark I used Spartan on a few cars until I discovered Dulon...  I recently painted some resin vases using acrylic... cant say I  miss the stuff.

Cheers

Ed

ok all might not be as bad as it seems, it is mainly the lower tailgate 2 doors and a little bit of the roof.
we had a good look today and we think its the clear that has gone funny in those places, so we rubbed a bit with 1500 paper and seemed to get rid of it but not all.

Hi John, I know how heartbraking it can be (FC "Special" ute page 3) - 9 coats of lacquer - blocked down after every 3 coats and then buffed to a dead flat mirror finish and after not 2 months to crazy crack from back to front, including inside the ute bed.  :'( :'( The paint manufacture came out and said I used the wrong thinners until I showed him 5 empty 20L drums of their thinners. He then said it was the undercoat, until I told him it was Glasurit, he shut up then and had no more answers. >:( >:( >:( >:(
After I asked him if he was "into" cars his comment was "No - they are just an A to B item to me, I don't get why you guys waste your time and money on these old cars" - he was lucky to leave still wearing his skin. :-\ >:( >:(
Another world wide respected paint company came out and had a look and said that they got the dryers wrong BIG time and nothing I did could have influenced the outcome. :'(
I couldn't afford to sue so with the great help of a mate off it all came and on went Glasurit over the Glasurit undercoat and the finish off the gun is brilliant and has been for the last 18months - My painter said it will look even better when he buffs it!!! ;) :D ;D ;D

All the best for the repairs, Cheers, tonyh  ;) ;) ;D ;D

Title: Re: next.....
Post by: Just40 on September 03, 2008, 12:28:10 AM
I am going to try and rub out the cracking for now, like i said it looks like it,s the clear that has reacted with the red in a few places. if that does not work i will asses it then and decide if it worth starting again or if it goes to ebay.
and yes ed the headlights are worth the money as i have them in my sedan and the are brillant but when i get into my fc wagon it,s like driving with candles.

I got a pair from that brightlightauto mob; they cost $56 the pair (no bulbs) plus postage. Got H4 bulbs locally, think they were about$12 each... They look and work very good (55/60 bulbs) and were easy to fit.
