This looks like Greg McLaren's old car.
Would that be correct Slim?
If it is, sorry to see it in this state.
This was a nice car and I can say first hand that this car went hard.
Regards
Alex

I got it from merrylands of a Excavator operator named John. It was still being driven around up until 2003. Dont know previous owner before him but he has had it for about 1and a half years. Its had a lot of work done on this car. And its actually much better in the flesh than these pictures make it look.  And as I said before , Its all there !!!. Slim

Hey Mark.
Congrats on the purchase.
Hope to see it brought back to it's former glory.
As I mentioned, this car went hard. I have fond memories driving this car and also going for a wild ride around Bendigo with it's owner Greg, back in 1991.
Here's a pic of the car shortly after rego, taken at the 3rd FE FC Nats.

Ive known greg and dave since i was about 5 but dont really see much of them these days, I remember one of the maclarens telling me, "no need for rack & pinion with a v8, you just make the box fit with a grinder"

Congratulations Mark on the purchase...!!

I love it when these old cars surface again, and I reckon it's great she's going to breath new life into another project....!!

Just a quick question for Alex, Harko and Leon..... (with tounge firmly in cheek)..... With an old modified car you'd like seen "brought back to it's former glory"..... Is that then classified as a Restoration or still modified...? LOL ;D ;D :P ;)

Sorry... had to ask!! ;D
Cheers
Les..... ;)

you could call it resto rod but that term is taken, I guess like resto guys who want to see a car turned back to how they remember it or how they were, the same can be desired with a modified car, especailly if it was well known.
Sometimes I think about building a replica of my first FE that I never got on the road, modified cars seem to really reflect the times they were modified in.
A extreme example is like when you find a well known custom show car from the sixties but its a rusted out wreck yet worth way more than a stocker with no history in the same condition.
anyway, I remember greg had two cars sitting up above the shelves in his shop, one a stocker and one a v8,  when you walked between the shelves you were walking under the cars, he said it was the only place thwey were safe. they had a few V8's, wasnt there one with personalised plates too, something like MY58FC? and some that popped up in magazines through the years and one that was stolen.
Anyway, my FC wagon is made up of lots of stuff from my FE, like the drivers door, brakes, dash, seats, motor etc.
Hey mini, maybe the sedan can be your next project with what you have left of it.

thanks leon, we pulled the sub frame off today.there is a bit of rust in it but a easy repair. the body once its stripped will be going to melbourne to converted to a two door with a 4?inch chop(thanks to jamie fe hotrod) for his new project. a few of you out there think its ashame to pull such a car apart but as a "GREAT" australian said once....... SUCH IS LIFE......  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D cheers mark

;)It might be ashame to not restore this fc to its former glory, but at least its going to a good home even if its going to become a radical custom,as i now have 2 shells to do this chop top, which over the last couple of years i have put a lot of research, talked to a lot of customisers on the best way to chop a fc roof!!this project will be sort of long term as money will dictate on how quick it will be finished, but one thing i would hate is to see a good fc rust into the weeds or head to sims for scrap!!!as i get started i will document everything as i go with plenty of pics so stay tuned.......cheers jamie ;)

Mate, if you're gonna chop it, please drop it on it's guts too ::)

There sure have been some ugly chopped early holdens with 4x4 stances over the years......

;)Shane you dont have to worry about that!!!my daily driver is dropped as far as it possibly can be,and i agree with you it has to be as low as possible, so my next trip to the states im sure my suit case will be as heavy as hell with a full set of air bags and not too many clothes!!!cheers jamie ;)
