Title: EK Linkages
Post by: ASUS on June 20, 2006, 08:49:30 AM
I have an EK wiper motor and looking to get the Linkages,

The Question I have, will the linkages fit in the FC, and will I also need to do any other mods.

Any advice would be great before I go ahead an buy the linkages.

Yes and No, in that order :)

The EK linkages are required because the electric motor rotates, whereas the vacuum motor oscillates, so the motion of the linkages is different.

Everything else is the same FE-EK.

Thanks Ret

Have you seen or any one else seen any wiper mods involving later model wiper and linkage mods for the FC

maybe some clever clogs can repro these?

an extra set would come in handy..

I have a VN preslite motor on an EK base.  You still need the EK linkages to modify however.

oh,., the motor points down too,  this could be fixed by drilling new alignment holes in the base plate.

Cheers

Ed

Early Mercedes Benz has wipers which oppose like FC - these could be adapted. Also Morris has shaft drive wipers which are popular on hotrods, these could be made to work on FC as well.  Frankly I would expect the purchase cost and messing around to get them working would be far harder than the existing 2 speed conversions already known which use EK drive arms.

Thanks,

FCTorque,  Put the motor, and small arms into the old grey today.

finally worked out that I did not require to use the wiper arms of the EK, used the small linkages and the old FC arms and she works a treat.

The next thing is to find a way to use the original knob. Any one done this Im looking at adding a pull switch using instant metal taping and screwing

ASUS,
You could use a headlight switch to operate the wipers ;)

Blacky, with a few simple mods, the 2 speed motor on my kit can be rotated around to sit up in a position similar to an original EK wiper motor if this is needed.  It is a little harder to bolt into position this way but can be done if needed.  Why not just ask me if you have a problem with my wiper motor?
I am more than happy to help with any issues.

Thanks ACE, Ken.

I was looking at the head light switch only yesterday and thinking it could be just the thing.

Ken if I cant find a headlight switch I will take you up on that offer.

Cheers

Ken , I am sorry if my post sounded like I was having a whinge , I had an autosparky put the motor in , it hit the throttle body , and after I put my brain in gear I figured out it  would fit with a minor tweak as you mentioned. I put the frown on the post to indicate that modified cars can be a pain in the arse at times. I am not knocking your workmanship , in fact I intend to send you another wiper motor in the not too distant future to put into my ute.
Cheers , Blacky.
