Title: red motor and brakes in Vic
Post by: Jonno on February 23, 2006, 12:13:43 PM
Just wondering has anyone in Vic done a red motor into FC conversion and had this signed off by an engineer with only single circuit brakes fitted (HR disk front end etc..)?

I have lots of info stating that two speed wipers, demister etc.. are required but thought single circuit brakes would be OK. However speaking to a guy today who was required to put dual circuit into an FJ with similar conversion to 186 red.

thought I would ask here before trying to talk to an engineer (they always seem to be too busy to help whenever I ring them)...

thanks, Jonno

Hey Jonno,

although I'm not familar with Vic rules , i'd reckon dual circuit brakes are a good idea anyway. Is this for the bare metalled ute?

it isnt so much work, and quite an easy job.

although EH - HR only had single circuit brakes I guess.. not that this makes them "safe".

Cheers

Ed

Hi Ed,

yes its for the ute.  I'm at quite a critical (hence paranoid) stage....paint will be happening soon (at least on a panel shop timescale) so I need all necessary holes etc in place to avoid any later dramas.  I was planning on using 1inch master cylinder and inner guard mounted booster for the brakes.  If I were to go dual circuit would the existing firewall holes for brake and clutch be OK?

Hey Jonno,

Can't really help with the holes dilemma.  I used an HK booster and although large it is very effective. There are prettier ways to do the dual circuit thing.

The holes were pretty close to original from memory.

Glenn (FC-V8), Scott (GOA350) and Jason (fevanv6)
all have neat firewall setups on their cars.

Ken (mcl1959) would probably be in the best position to give you the low down on what works etc.

any build pics on the ute?

Cheers

Ed

OK thanks Ed... Will chat to Ken first up as he will probably have access to any bits I need.

No recent pics of the ute...its currently upside down on a rotisserie having many years of paddock-induced 'texture' removed...  Will take some photos soon.

On the positive side my 'rust free but scruffy' ebay wagon is very close to being safe to drive (no idea how it was ever registered without being able to stop?!) so I might make it to Philipp Island after all...
