Title: FEs outside theatrette
Post by: customFC on January 03, 2006, 12:02:44 PM
Interesting photo taken outside a theatrette that may be located at the Fishermans Bend Holden factory.
No details to give exact location, but the cars have Vic plates.

Here's a closer look.

Both of those plates appear to start with GMH ###.

Maybe the executives parked their cars outside while at the piccies.   ;D

The guy on the bike is working out how to pinch them!  :o :o

Early FE's as well. Look at the rear window trim. Thin strip. probably the Lang Lang test cars or something.

Nice one Alex, haven't seen that one before.  Reckon you are on the money with the Fisherman's Bend call.  Maybe theatRETte has something to add?  ;)

Info on this photo from the Holden archives is that it was taken at one of Holdens parts manufacturers in Williamstown (Melbourne). The light coloured car was the first FE produced at the "new" Dandenong plant.
Both cars were publicity vehicles used in many of the Holden ads and promotions.
I've seen those same number plates used in other marketing photos for different cars as well. I guess they just transferred the regos. The GMH prefix was a standard issue Vic plate at the time and I'm surprised Holden didn't register more cars to take advantage of it.

Here's a few pics showing the Thailand Olympic Team visiting Fishermans Bend.
Notice the car.

Wouldn't be surprised if the car in the background is the other car in the first pics.

That photo or one very similar was on display in the now legendary Nasco Social Club at the Phillip Island Nationals along with a number of other enlarged achivial shots.
