Title: Army sedan update
Post by: mcl1959 on November 12, 2005, 09:26:22 AM
I have managed a couple of photos of the rear quarter replacement on the army sedan.
The car was modified in the 70's and copped some huge flares which pumped out not only the outer guard, but about 4 inches up into the inner guard as well.

Here is the replacement inner guard, note that it has some rust as well. This will be cut out and repaired before installation.  Nobody would let me chop up a good car to get some really good inner guards.  Pity because the army sedan had no rust in the rear quarters at all.

Here is the NOS rear quarter in place - it all fits quite nicely.

Looks like a big operation, but the end result will be worth it. It is coming along nicely.
I hope you have it ready for the Nats, as it is 1 of the cars that I will be driving down to see.
Thanks for the update.
Regards
Alex

Gday Ken,

I was just wondering mate, what was the history of the car if known, after the DOD disposed of it to civilian use. Otherwise can't wait to see how the car turns out once restoration is complete .... nice military tac-sign as well, from memory I think it is a former 3 Div tac-sign (I may be wrong on that one).

Cheers ...... Pete

Pete, the car was sold at auction by the DOD on the 25th March 1965 (I have the original auction invoice which had been kept all these years)
It had a minor bingle (LHF mudguard written off) in 1966 and laid unwanted in a panel shop for a couple of years until the previous owner bought it, repaired it and used it as a daily driver until 1982 when it was garaged to undergo a full rebuild.  Mods done between 1968 and 1982 included red motor, HR front and rear, Aussie 4 speed, flared rear guards, bucket seats, hidden wiring etc, etc.
I purchased the car in 2004 and proceeded to bring it back to stock.
