Picked up our new ute today, WooHoo after a little searching, I found one in the same state this time. Albeit on the other side of the state!
FE Ute, 161 out to 173, cam and other work, 2 1/2" system (sounds and goes great), Aussie 4 speed, HR Disc Front End and not many other details. No plate on the firewall and a faint body number on the engine bay panel. We also got an Ally/Fibreglass canopy in the deal too (not shown). The pics are actually very flattering, it looks worse in real life.

Not real sure on the what the go-pedal is from, I thought it may have been torana but there is a cable attached (just) to the end. There is some real well thought out engineering on this one though. Like tek screws holding the seats to the floors!
Heaps of fun with the warm 6 and 4 speed, pulling some second-gearies around the block today. Takes me back to my teenage years terrorising the neighbourhood in the torrie  ;D
Once the FE Sedan is on the road this one may get some attention, it's the wife's though so alot depends on her.

Forgot to mention the most interesting bit of the story.
This is the second FE I have bought from Mt Gambier way, the sedan was originally from a builder just the other side of the Mount in OB Flat. As it turns out the guy who owned the ute had owned my FE Sedan before selling it to the builder.
This guy also had an FC Sedan in the garage, mostly finished, very original with American racing mags and painted almost exactly the same colours as my FC Wagon.

The interior colour scheme is interesting.  The paint colours are the same as on my FE Special sedan, but the door trim is in different colours.  My trim is in same colours as the paintwork in mine, but yours is very different shades.  Does anyone know what the practice was?  Was it simply mix and match or was it different for utes?
The painting of the glove box door and instrument surround section in the dark brown is also different to in my sedan, but that seems to have been the way that ute dashes were done.
I will eventually get into the digital age and get some pictures of my interior to post, but in the meantime you'll have to make do with the explanation of my colour scheme.

The ute has a special sedan interior - the original ute interior trim was identical to standard sedan / business sedan / van, ie a stippled pattern style of PVC.

That secondary colour dash is also a common modification, but not original.  All FEs and FCs had the instrument carrier and glove box lid the same colour as the bonnet.  What varies is the colour of the dash top:
- flattened body colour for standard / commercial FE pre-58
- flattened secondary (or duotone) colour for special FE pre-58
- flat grey colour for all FE from around Feb '58 and all FC.

Oh - and this is just to clarify for David's benefit, no reflection on your ute, Stinky, which looks like a great fun-having mobile. ;)

Just caught up with this one, Stinky.  Well done - it looks pretty reasonable, and it's obviously a goer if you've been terrorising the neighbourhood already.
