Title: Header to Firewall Clearance
Post by: Glenn 'Stinky' Stankevicius on October 09, 2005, 10:34:27 PM
I had to modify the firewall to clear the headers (so it was more than 3mm) on the FE. It now has about 10-12mm clearance around the pipe.
Is this enough, or will it heat up the firewall too much?
After a couple minutes running the metal inside the cabin is warm to touch.
The headers are ceramic coated, but the closest part of the header to the firewall is on a bend.

minimum under ADRs is 15mm - so i'd be bending a bit more... ::)

i mean, i've had exhausts about 5mm away from the firewall and while it's awesome on long winter drives, in summer it can be a bit of a pain for your passenger.

never had an issue with rubbing though - forward/rear movement isn't the bit you need to worry about...!
