Title: Generator/Alternator Conversion
Post by: TAYZ on July 11, 2005, 07:36:52 AM
My points have stuck and my generator is cactus.  I have decided to get rid of the generator and replace with an alternator.  can someone who has done this conversion please suggest which alternaor to use??  (originality is out the window for me now)  A mate suggested one from early model Commodore, thanks

Any internally regulated Bosch alternator from a Holden HQ on wards will do the job, the bigger the amps output the better thou. Units from HQ on basic around 35amps to 55 amp units.

If you search I have posted quite a lengthy answer to changing over from gen to alt before.
Good Luck

Hi Guys.

The HQs had an alternator with an external regulator, similar to HD-HG.

The alternator you need will come off anything from HJ to VK Commodore.

There are 2 different brand units used. Avoid the Lucas & use a Bosch one.
