Title: installing distributer/vacuum advance?
Post by: Dave_EH on May 06, 2005, 10:10:56 AM
Hi,

I hope to install a twin point distributer on the weekend to replace my single point job.

I will be pulling the dizzy off my "unfished" donor motor I bought, which has not been started.  As far as I know the points have already been set.

I understand that you just need to have the no.1 cylinder at TDC for correct installation?

The new dizzy does not have vacuum advance - will this cause too many problems?

Should I block off the vacuum advance inlet on the carburettor or leave it open?

Regards
Dave

Hi Dave,
You need to have the No1 cylinder on TDC on the compression stroke. ;)
The vacuum advance is mainly a economy device on standard motors and you should block off the the vacuum port at the carby.
My opinion of twin point dizzys= double trouble.
My choice would be a electronic dizzy from a VC-VH and some VK 6 Commodores or a WB 6.

Thank you Ace,

you're a champ ;D  I will source an electronic dizzy, although since I had this new twin point sitting around and paid next to nothing for it I thought I may as well give it a run in the interim.

Cheers
