Title: Oversize head gasket?, X2 manifold gasket
Post by: Dave_EH on March 30, 2005, 06:16:10 AM
G'day,

1) If my 179 has been bored to 192 does it still use the original size head gasket i.e. is there only one size head gasket for a red motor?

2) Is there a special gasket to suit X2 headers?  I have an extractor type but I assume the stock type would be more correct?

Regards
Dave

gidday dave

not 100% but pretty sure there is only  one head gasket to suit red motor  but what i can tell you is that i am running 186s headers [same as x2 afaik] on a 186 with std exhaust gasket  for some time and have had no probs.

hope this helps

All Red Motors use the same head gasket as the maximum overbore size is .080" which is neglible in the overall bore diameter. You can use an extractor gasket with X2 Headers, but in my experience it is better with the standard gasket, providing they are not warped or twisted, as the bolts tend to work loose with extractor gaskets (unless loctited of course).
