Steve,
Bit more info on what the radio looks like & where it is mounted ("Below the dash" isn't very specific) will help heaps.
But, there is an Air Chief radio that is a manual control (No buttons). I think they suit the "Commercials" better.

it is under the grill. mounted with 2 angles to the bottom of the dash. it has on the front of it nsw, sa and i think vic and qld for the the station if you know what i mean on either side of the  plastic screen     sorry just had a look and it says           awa cruiser gt   sorry for wasting your time          i was not thinking to straight may be i should stop having a few quiet ones ::)                            i suppose these are not like the air cheifs

That's cool, I am having a few "quiet ones" myself ;D. AWA Cruisers were an aftermarket accessory, but may have been dealer installed as far as I know. They are definately era style, so it is cool.
