Post by: griffo on February 04, 2005, 07:30:41 AM

Can anyone tell me if their is a difference between
HT, HK & HG rims ?
I want to fit 14 in. steelies to my HR front end and was
wondering which would be best !

HK are different because they have slots in them, from memory four lots of two together (8 slots in all) but are becoming quite hard to find. I think they are 14" x 5". HT and HG are standard looking rims, like a 14" version of an HR rim.

I believe some (such as Monaro) may have had factory 6" wide? Widened rims in HK-T-G were quite common (aftermarket) and come up for sale at swap meets. Volvos also used the same stud pattern for many years (now changed) and have a choice of different rims available. Personally I like the HK and have a full set (including widened rears) on a 29 Chev project I have (runs early holden stubs and diff).

My FC currently runs 14" mags but I find the tyres touch on full lock occassionally. I will put lower profiles on when I change them, I thought of going to a set of stock HK-HT-HG rims as I have a set of 14" whitewalls here but was concerned that the tyres were too tall and foul. Low profiles are a better option.

I also believe the offset changed between HK - HT - HG.

They will fit an HR front end, however the FC hubcaps will not fit.

HT & HG had a 1 inch? wider track than the HK. The difference was made up in the rim offset.

Hi guys.

The wheel nuts are also different.

The HK used the same as FE - HR & the HT/HG used the later style.

Thanks for replies

So which one is the best ?
HK or HT -G with the wider offset , do the tyres then rub or do you still have clearance ?
Does anyone have these fitted ?  and with what tyre

Griffo.

Send a PM to "Chuck". He has fitted HK and HT/G wheels to FC's (for reasons only known to himself  ;)) and he will be able to explain the advantages of both.

When discussing his current project recently, he mentioned something about wishing he'd used HK rims again instead of HT/G because of the offset, however I don't think it was because of a clearance problem.

I've just picked up a pair of 14x7 HK rims, anybody running these on the rear of their sedan and what size tyre are you using?

I have some 14x7s on the FE Sedan with 235/60(?) Firestones not 100% on the profile. Yet to be road proven though and I had the rims made to suit so they may have a different backspace/off-set to yours.
