Title: Where can I get FC Holden Rims?
Post by: Soylent on December 09, 2004, 07:51:19 AM
I recently went over a speed hump at night and way too fast. The outcome is obvious... 3 out of 4 Rims where buckled and are now completely useless.  :'(

Dinkum outo Salvage in Melbourne has Rims but off EK and alike. My mechanic told me that the FE/FC have different Rims and using EK ones would result in the Drum Breaks being damaged or warped.

The guy at Dinkum Auto Salvage seems to think that they are OK.

Does anyone know if this is true. Where can I get good condition original Rims from?

I am in Melbourne.

Cheers
Rodney

Yep true ,If you have a look at the drum it has raised secvtions that fit the wheels ,If they are different than the wheel you are using (fouling) it will result in warped drums and your car will start dancin on the brakes

Hi guys.

Your mechanic has got his Holden models mixed up.

All FE/FC/FB/EK/EJ/EH use the same wheel rims.

There were minor production changes, like in mid-'59 they went from the large valve hole to the small valve hole, while some centre are spot welded in, some are arc welded & some are rivetted, but they are all have the same centre pressing & are all interchangeable.

It's the factory HD/HR rims that have the different centre pressing.

Dr Terry is right.

The HD/HR rims are identified by one small 1/8th inch hole which is factory drilled through the raised metal portion  between the normal wheel nut holes.  (A bit hard to see at first until you know what you are looking for.)
These rims will fit over the disc brake assembly whereas the earlier rims will bind on the caliper.

I'm not sure that's right.  I think the hole in the rim identifies the HR rim from the HD rim, which has a different offset.  I know this has been discussed here before, but I can't find it.

Update (Yes I can, it was discussed here ($2) and with more detail here ($2).  That 7 day default on the search page, gets ya every time ::) )

It's certainly true that FE/FC original rivetted rims bind on disc calipers, though.

cheers
