Title: ID Plate Help Post by: fastjbav6 on November 15, 2004, 03:24:10 PM I've finally recorded the details off the ID Plate on my 14,000 mile FB Standard Sedan.
I could only interpret the paint code from the FB/EK QLD site,(Morning Grey). The FB/EK NSW site has been off line, and i would like more details. Chassis Number FB8275P Engine Number B98446 Body FB215 - 1302A Trim 514 - 800 Paint 585 - 9699 The car was sold new in Perth on the 18th October 1960 with the original rego plates still on the car. Is it number 8,275 or 275 off the Perth assembly line? Is it number 1,302 or 302 off the Adelaide assembly line? Sorry for not posting a picture of the car for those that have asked in the past, i don't have a digital camera. Garry, FE_UTE did take some photos at a Club meeting about 3-4 months back. He may still have them. Would appreciate any help on the ID interpretation. Regards Seb Title: Re: ID Plate Help Post by: RET on November 15, 2004, 10:20:03 PM Seb,
Happy to help. The chassis number suggests it is the 7,275th FB to be assembled in Perth. (The chassis numbers used to start at 1001 for reasons known only to GM-H, although possibly it was felt that a number like FC7S might not look like a valid number and cause problems for registration. Why they couldn't have used FC00007S is anybody's guess). Anyway, it's the 7,275th, and the 1,302nd standard sedan to be manufactured at Adelaide. I can probably find out what trim code 800 stands for when I get home. cheers RET Title: Re: ID Plate Help Post by: fastjbav6 on November 16, 2004, 01:25:52 AM Thanks RET.
The Trim code, 514, does that refer to the secondary paint color if it was a Special ? The interior is a nice looking red with a what i can only describe as a very light Morning Grey or 'discoloured'/'dirty' white hood linning. Can the day/month/year of manufacture be found out by the engine/body/chassis number? One site refers to the FB/EK as 1959-1962 and another as 1960-1962. Still no luck trying to get on other FB/EK sites to get the Tech info. Even tried through Links. Regards Seb Title: Re: ID Plate Help Post by: RET on November 16, 2004, 02:26:09 AM Seb,
Meaning of trim-code on FB/EK is identical to FE/FC (see here ($2).) 514 is external colour (or combination if appropriate, not in your case) 800 is internal trim colour(s) Subsequent paint number(s) then provide the paint type(s) and BALM number(s). Interesting that one of the sites you've come across lists the FB as being released in 1959. This is when it was supposed to be released ("FB" = "59" in the GM-H model code), but it wasn't actually released until January 1960. As far as date of manufacture is concerned, I think you'll need to find the FB-EK equivalent of Guru Ken to ascertain that. Generally, the chassis and engine numbers will help you to roughly identify the date of assembly. The ID plate number can be used to determine date of manufacture, but this is done somewhat empirically, requiring the collation of many ID tags such as Ken has done to be able to generate trend-lines. Hope that helps, RET Title: Re: ID Plate Help Post by: Spinner on November 16, 2004, 07:56:08 AM Seb,
