Title: accelerator connection in v6 conversion Post by: MikeM on November 10, 2004, 03:51:02 AM Any suggestions on the best path to take when modifying the accelerator setup when putting in a ecotech v6 (vs)?
I am toying with the idea of fitting up the pedal from the donor or wleding a bracket onto the firewall to use the existing mechanism to extend the cable, which I am unsure of how it might function over time. Again, all help is appreciated, I am sure this has been done a lot of times. It will give you the correct leverage and smooth throttle operation. Either bolt or weld the bracket in place. Seb Title: Re: accelerator connection in v6 conversion Post by: JB on November 10, 2004, 11:08:06 AM G'day Mike,
This one I have covered... Use the VT Booster and pedal assembly, it took me just 6 hours to get it out of the Vt and fitted into the FE as it sits today. This gives a really good pedal height and also a very good booster. Only problem is that you can't run a manual with this set up. When bolted up the VT pedal assembly will be about 100mm short of the bottom of the instrument cluster. To solve the problem of firewall flex cut the Fe/Fc assembly to suit and weld up to the new one. When I did this the alignment between the two was spot on... Just lucky I guess. With the accelerator cable i had one made out of braided line to suit for only $100, which I thought was pretty reasonable. Depending on the dollar situation Vt front calipers can be modified to suit drumm Hr stubs via Hoppers Stoppers at around $800 and a VN Diff gives the same calipers on the rear as the VT... Problem solved. May have jumped a few guns here, but this more than worked for me. Brakes tested at over 1g when getting blue plated. Cheers Jason. I am running a (column) auto (to keep the original look of 3 on the tree), Rod from Rods racks made up a nice little mech which hangs off the side, need to check for a shifting cable. I will look at the donor setup and how the accelerator can fit up, I guess I was trying to avoid another hole in the firewall. Title: Re: accelerator connection in v6 conversion Post by: JB on November 16, 2004, 12:32:14 AM I had to put another hole in the fire wall for the accelerator cable, hinge side of the booster. With the braided accelerator cable it doesn't look too bad.
Cheers Jason. |
