Title: noisy tappets

Any ideas on noisy tappets the old grey is in good nick generally no smoke or fumes runs smooth enough just a bit of tappet noise..This is my first grey motor, so is this parr for the corse.?

Hi Rod,
The tappets are adjustable ;)
Intake      .008 in Hot
Exhaust   .012 in Hot

Hi Rod,
Even when the tappets are adjusted correctly, you'll probably find that they'll be a bit noisy  :-/ , yeah it's quite normal for greys. You'll probably also find that there's some gudgeon knock/rattle at idle.

I guess that being a 1930's/40's design engine has it's drawbacks, but they're a pretty good ol' lump  :D
