Title: FE Steering column and indicators Post by: nigelb42 on April 08, 2004, 09:15:06 AM Howdy all,
This FE me and my brother bought has been attacked by some boy racers and theres a couple of things I would like to pick your brains about regarding the steering column. 1. Is it normal for the column to stick out so far?, when measured from the driver side of the under dash retainer - to the bottom of the gearshift cover its 10 1/2 inches. Does this sound right? 2. Some goon has tie wired a three way switch onto the column to serve as an indicator switch, I think that some FEs didn't come with indicators, so where did they sit when they were fitted, and 3. Does anybody have a picky of the above so that I can source the bits and undo the mess that is currently sitting looking at me? Thanks Nige Title: Re: FE Steering column and indicators Post by: robbzfc58 on April 08, 2004, 09:41:37 AM g'day nigel sounds like you need a workshop manual

Got to agree with Trev, you need a genuine workshop manual, there is an FE one on EBay at the moment. These manuals are invaluable source of info. Suggest taking a step back and get the book and see what you actually have, the 'boy racers' may not have done that much to it; by the way I think you will find quite a few boy (read 'old' boys) racers on this site as we are not all 100% resto and authentic. Good Luck John M PS. Also you may wish to try the search engine on this site as nearly all has been asked and discussed before at some stage. Geez I remember reading that post the other day too !! The closest thing I have at the moment is an ancient old gregorys manual covering FX to HR. I will have to scour the country for something FE. It is located just above the honey pot.
A workshop manual is a MUST Ken Title: Re: FE Steering column and indicators Post by: nigelb42 on April 08, 2004, 10:07:45 AM Okay will make it THE priority. I guarantee you John that any old holden lover would not have done some of the stoooooopid things these guys have done........doesn't matter though I love a challenge.
Thanks nige Title: Re: FE Steering column and indicators Post by: Effie C on April 08, 2004, 10:18:03 AM Nige
I think we all must like a challange as we all are working on cars over 45 years old, maybe we are stupid ::) John M Title: Re: FE Steering column and indicators Post by: nicko on April 08, 2004, 11:26:38 AM i appreciate all old holdens stock or remodeled . dont forget a lot of the old boys who had stock cars dumped them at sims metal yards after stacking them or just changing up to newer models,so to anyone who does up an old car they might do some silly things to them but well they are working on them they are keeping them alive for others to love and keep later on even if it means some hard work redoing them the right way.

Thanks for all of your advice Nige :-X |
