Title: Aussie 4 sp Info
Post by: normd on January 21, 2004, 02:11:19 PM
Hi Guyzz
After the last discussion on these g/boxes , I've come up with something else.
After cleaning off 20 yrs of grease & dust , I've found "GT" printed on the top of the box in 2 places. It is in yellow paint on the normal red paint , and is stamped on (not hand written) . This must have been like that from the factory , as I bought the box brand new.
   Any Ideas ?  ???

   Norm  :)

Hi Norm, just spoke to mate who used to manage ALL GM WRECKERS in Sydney and he siad they seemed to have lots of different things in heavy yellow and also black written on them with no apparent order, but if you open up box and tell me the numbers on shaft he can tell you what its for as they have set numbers for 1 tonner, XU1,and others

Hi Nicko
Thanks for that , mate ,  the box is still in the car at the moment , but when I go to paint it in a few months (hopefully), I'm taking the motor/box out , and I'll be able to check it then.  If I can get back to you then that would be great.
      Geesh now I owe ya 2  ;D

i just posted a reply and it dissapeared into cyber space so here i go again, if you take off bearing retainer at front of box the input shaft numbers are also hidden there, if you find the numbers are not on it or on the lay  shaft then its had a rebuild and cheap jap parts have being installed, they are as week as piss and will wear out fast due to poor hardening process.also when removing cover on aussie 4 speed make sure you dont turn selectors 180deg as they will go back in the wrong way but box will be very hard to change gears or even jam up so take extra care they go back in  exactly as they came out

Nicko
Thanks mate , I will have a mechanic with me when I pull the motor out , but I'll make sure we watch the selectors.  The parts in the box should be genuine as the box was new when I bought it , not a scratch or bolt mark on it.
  Cheers mate
