Title: I'm Excited!
Post by: Glenn 'Stinky' Stankevicius on September 22, 2003, 11:33:02 AM
Got a full day on the FE today, and got a few jobs done, not as many as I would have liked, but hey what's new there.

The trimmer said he will do the roof lining Monday night (after 2.5 yrs :P) no excuses hopefully, I will meet him at his shop and he will follow me home. If you hear a huge scream tomorrow around 4:30PM you know what's happened.

Some shots of work some work so far.

Blanked HR steering column with a fresh coat of black paint.

This was done quite some time ago, firewall mods to accept a torana booster and master cyl.

A mock-up of the FE dash with an Autometer Speedo left over from another project.

Spent near enough to 3 hours cleaning the gunk off the rear screen surround.

Added a bracket to the (rusty) hadfield trans tunnel for the B&M quicksilver shifter.

Here's a shot of the rear with some old 13" torana rims with 235 rubber, just to get an idea of the fit. Eventually I will put a torana diff in with 14" wheels and 235 tyres.

Trev, if you can imagine the car with the rear screen fitted, the firewall unmodified, the old trans tunnel in place, well that's pretty much how I got the car.
The original plan was to "slap" it together and go cruising, that was a number of years ago. It would seem now that I am over the "hump", I have pretty much gathered all the parts. Finding the time to put them all together is the major frustration.
Motor is a fairly warm 202 with a traumatic trans, LSD diff courteousy of Al in NSW (sorry if I stuffed the name up).

BTW if you are listening Al what was the ratio of the diff?

nice looking car stinky, it'll be a great cruiser when it's done. I'll have to bring my old clunker out to a SMASA meet soon, going to join once my car looks repsectable.

Luke.

AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Another delay! I will definately have pics of the finished roof-lining on Wednesday night. Either that or a pic of the bloodied corpse of my trimmer.  ;D

Luke,
You don't need a respectable car to join up SMASA, come along to a meeting anytime. If you turn-up at next month's meeting SA Police are putting on a free 1/2 hour Marshalling course. You get a certificate at the end and can work at shows (eg Clipsal 500 etc) as a Marshall. There's free tea and coffee, an bar if you want a beer and we usually put on some food, either nuts and chips during or pizza at the end.

The chassis kit is in too, so send me a PM or email and we can arrange for you to drop by, although I don't have the instructions yet, oops, called the shop and they are posting them out to me.

Hi  Stinky,
Don't you just love the look of the rear of an FE or FC . Your car looks great stinky. The diff ratio is 3.36 . Like the dash that speedo looks good in it.

     Cheers Al

Count me in on next months meeting buddy, being a marshall at the 500 would be decent. I havnt missed a day of it since it started, even got to watch the start of the race from the podium one year.

I'll send ya a msg about droppin in for a beer, maybe this weekend if I can rebuild my carby's before then.

Luke.

Thanks for all the compliments and words of encouragement.

Finally the trimmer came over today and the roof-lining is in, I will put up photos as soon as I scab back the batteries for the digital camera from various childrens toys :)

A week of annual leave coming up should see a fair amount of work being done.

Here's the photers.

Rear section of the roof lining

The trimmed wheel arch
(http://www.smasa.com.au/glenns_fe/20030929arch.jpg)

The 6 1/2" (16cm)speakers and yet to be trimmed parcel shelf, I still have to drill the holes for the speaker screws, seatbelt bolts and child restraint bolt. (Yes I was up a ladder)

The steering wheel next to sample of the cloth being used, not a bad match.

The colour was actually chosen to match the original (FC) vinyl, as I was going to restore the door trims. I could never do the roof and everything else justice. So the door trims are being re-trimmed too.
