Hi Team,
Electroplating Technology (EPT) in Canberra have closed their doors on car busines as they have landed a big government contract. I spoke to the owner today and he advised me to call back in 12-18 months to see if he had the ability to fit me in. I now have the full suite of bits and pieces for the ute to get chromed/re-chromed. I have sent off some pictures to All Metal Bumpers in Ingleburn, simply because it is the closest to me and he was prepared to give me an indicative price based on me emailing hims some photos of the components to the rechromed. So a couple of questions: has anyone used All Metal Bumpers for rechroming? If so what was your experience like? Does anyone have other recommendations (Sydney based preferably) for me to follow up with?
Cheers n Beers
Craig
Craig,
I've used Astor Metal Finishers in Villawood, and also Blu-Chrome. Blu-Chrome is a production house, in that they don't repair parts. The condition you give the parts to them in is the condition you get them back in, but re-chromed.
Much further away for you is Hamilton Chrome in Newcastle.
Rob
Thanks Rob, I'll reach out to Astor - there needs to be some scratches filled in the bumparettes and some big blisters on the bonnet bird.
Cheers
As far as door handles go Craig, I would use the reproduction ones rather than try and rechrome originals.

Thanks, I think you, or someone, recommeded this approach to me a while ago. I don't have them on my list of things to get rechromed. I do have the visor on my list but the centre bracket appears to be an alloy that has not previously been chrome plated. Probably a polished finish. The stainless trim and brackets look pretty grotty in the photo, because they are, but I think they will polish up fine. Any advice for the centre bracket (see photo below).

I received the first quote back this morning at a little under $12K. Is that about right?
Way over the budget I was expecting. Hopefully the other quotes come back at a more affordable price.
As a result I have prioritsed the work: 1. 1/4 window frames; 2. grille; 3. bumparettes 4. the front bars; and 5. the headlight surrounds.
May look into the Caswell kit (down the track) to see if I can't do the small items.
Craig .Yes ,,I used all metal bumpers at Ingleburn ..for both steel and die cast parts in 2018 ..very happy ...Phil and Peter ...They told me the steel would go to Melbourne and the die cast done here ...contacted me and said my FRH blinker is not rechromable ..they got me another very reasonable ..can recommend unless things have changed as seems the case everywhere these days .Vern .

Thanks Vern,
Phil is who I was dealing with there. I spent yesterday with some 000 steel wool and a bucket of soapy water going through all of the chrome and making decisions on what to re-chrome, what to paint and what to use in an attempt to get the cost down. I have decided on getting the bumper, bumperettes, 1/4 windows, guard spears, the tailgate badge and grille badge surround rechromed. I am going to ditch the bonnet bird and paint the headlight surrounds until I find a good useable set in chrome. The rest is useable less the grille.
I managed to pick up a bunch of bits yesterday including an original grille badge and the upper surrounds for the grille so I now have about an 80% grille solution that is in useable condition. There are a couple of grilles on FB Marketplace that are in poor condition but the bit I need appears to be OK so I am trying to get some pictures to confirm. Amazing the prices people want for them. That leaves a driver's side indicator surround to find in reasonable nick I think I am good to go. I have thrown a couple of wanted ads up on here and if I dont have success I will reach out on one of the facebook groups to see if I can't rattle something from a tree.
Have you had at look at this mob?

I have not heard of them but will reach out. Thanks for the heads up. Interestingly I received a quote back from another mob today that provided itemised pricing. The variations in pricing for the same items were so divergent it is hard to know what is right and wrong.
Hi Jolls,
I think Blue Chrome have closed their doors. You might try Pioneer Plating at Moorebank. https://www.pioneerplating.com.au/
Cheers
