Holden FC grey motor 132 cubic inches
Changed my oil and replaced oil filter with Ryco R4P ran her round the block oil pressure switch came so I stopped oil running out of top of the F4 oil appeared to have cavitated I didn’t overfill.
Ryco R4P filters come out with sealing ring for lid of the unit never has been of right dimensions too skinny and never capable of doing the job so I made up a gasket some time ago and it’s never let me down so far.
Drained the residual engine oil put couple of litres fresh oil in warmed her up put Penrite flush ran 10 min. Drained the lot left her to cool finally putting 3 Litres fresh oil in ran her to warm her up.
Only to observe oil spewing out of Fram lid.
Sick of this Fram bypass filter so going to take it out and hopefully things will return to normal.
Anyone had similar problems with these units. Suggestions please.
Hi ..Do you have a oil pressure gauge fitted ? I believe its essential when you add after market or even Nasco approved accessories of the period for engine oil ..When you overcome your current problem , check that oil pressure is within the specified range ...the best oil filter for a stock Holden Grey is regular oil change with correct oil ..
No pressure gauge fitted to my FC will do so after I unplumb the Fram unit
Have been running the Fram since 2016 and no problems like this before.
My main observation being that the Ryco filter only ever showed very little oil having even reached a couple of inches from its base to the current total saturation & then over flowing.
Doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.
Thanks for your reply
Took the whole bypass filter off closed off the oil supply line to filter blocked oil return to sump
Bobs your aunty oil pressure idiot light only flickers at idle so I’m away again
Put the orange Ryco unit back insitu & it looks the part but now doing nothing apart from looking period.
So it good bye and thanks for nought !
Happy FC grey

Probably the wise thing to do ..If your conditional rego your probably not doing heaps of K's so no need to have a functional by pass filter , keep for looks? why not ..regular oil change , and if your idle pressure and running pressure is in range and not using oil and a few checks , like seeing oil dripping of rocker shaft whilst idling ..all you need ...Vern ..
