G'day, things have been a bit slow on my restoration but seem to be moving again, the end is in sight.
I need some help with trimming the rear parcel shelf as nothing to use as reference. I have looked through the forum for some answers and worked out that there is trim board laid over the shelf that is trimmed in same colour vinyl as seats etc. What I need to know is how the trimmed board is fixed to the metal parcel shelf of the car. Mine is an early FE and there is a row of screw holes on the vertical lip of the parcel shelf behind where the seat back rest butts up. Is there supposed to be a thin metal strip sown into the vinyl similar to the wheel arch trimming that is screwed down to hold it there? I assume the board is glued down and then the vinyl is glued along the window opening before the rear glass goes in. appeciate your help with this and if anyone has an original car with everything still intact, some pics would be awesome. Thanks, Al
Al,
You're right. The board (which is just thick card) is glued to the parcel shelf, then the vinyl is glued on top of the card. At the rear, the vinyl wraps over the rear window flange and at the front it runs over the return for the rear seat squab, where it's also glued down.

Thanks Rob, sounds straight forward enough. What do you reckon about the screw holes, were they originally screwed down somehow?
Al,
The row of screw holes must be an early FE thing. RET may be able to help you here . . .

Thanks again Rob, RET or Ken, anything to add? I am trying to make everything as close to factory as I can so if there is a strip or something along the lip I would like to replicate it. Al
