Title: Which column, FC rack & pinion?
Post by: Fast_Eddie on August 15, 2003, 06:56:52 AM
I'm currently undertaking a V8 conversion into a FC sedan.

I have a CRS HR front end with front mounted rack.

For RTA requirements, I have to fit a collapsable column.

Can anyone suggest a suitable column that will enable me to meet the objectives of keeping an original look, ie dash ignition and FC wheel, column auto shift, and is also collapsable?

How about an LC Torana column auto? LCs had ignition on the dash so it would be a fairly plain column. AFAIK the LC column is collapsible.

Hi Guys.

The HK/T/G Column is similar to the LC Torana 6 column. However the LC has a better auto trans indicator, which is away from the dash facia.

It's the combination of tha original steering wheel & the column auto selector that is the most difficult.

If you go to a later model steering wheel or a floor selector (or both) your available choice will be wider.

Regards.

Dr Terry.

There is a guy in Beaudesert who can convert EK auto holden steering columns to a collapsible rack and pinion system by using  VB/C/H column parts.  From inside the car you can't any difference and he  rigs up the auto selector to do it's job.  I am not sure whether he can rig up a manual column change.

Fast Eddie

I would contact this guy: Rod at rodsracks@hypermax.net.au (07) 5541 4967 0419 760 987.  He makes a collapsible column utilising a commodore lower column section mated to your original upper.  That way you can retain your factory wheel, blinkers etc...
If you call him, he will e-mail you an excellent document including pictures - really, really helpfull bloke

Cheers - Chuck

Got the information from Rod.

Basically he makes a collapsable column out of your early Holden column, the floor plate and a early model Commodore column.

Anyone got a spare column, floor plate and early Commodore column they want to sell? I'll post on parts wanted.
