Title: Bolt sizes and specifications
Post by: Dave Lakin (Davo Lako) on May 17, 2017, 03:00:15 PM
Have re-re-re-recommenced putting the FE back together after 10 years plus and have decided to replace all bolts , pipes , pressure pipes etc , etc  (have misplaced many or donated some to my FJ) ... thinking of going mostly stainless ... any thoughts ?? Also , is there a listing of specs for all bolts on FE & FC ? ... ie ... UNC and/or UNF ... presumably all are imperial ?  Any advice will be appreciated ...

I can't see the benefit of going stainless unless you want to go on the show circuit later.
Steel bolts will be much cheaper and do the job admirably.
The parts book lists all bolt sizes and lengths and this should be your number one reference point.

Thanks Ken ... Perhaps I will restrict stainless to the "bling" chrome bits ... Are the bolts listed on the parts CD ?

Be sure and give any stainless threads serious anti seize treatment. Very dry and tends to bind. Also brittle. Next thing snap.

I think the CD was for FX to HR. This is an advantage in cases, but for the task you want I would use an DX to FE parts book ( or as early as you can find)
It's far easier to find what you are looking for.
