Title: HR stub axles
Post by: Simo on May 28, 2015, 01:22:18 PM
Can any one tell me if an HQ stub axle will marry into HR cross member and hub?
Thank you
Simo

Am running HQ stub axles, rotors and calipers with my HR front and works very well.

I'm the same as JOX Simo not a problem at all, I run the later and supposedly better Aluminium Girlock calipers

They will physically bolt on no issues, and over HR stubs give you approx. 3/4 " drop in ride height, they also add a bit of camber so make it hard to get perfect wheel alignment
having said that, I am running HQ stubs  VN brakes on a HR front end on an FX holden, and it works for me, but I do get a lot of toe in produced if I jack the wheels off the ground but it doesent seem to affect the vehicle during normal suspension travel range,  I drove from Brisbane to Victoria and back towing a caravan and never once had an issue with the set up other than it scrubbed the inside edges of the tyres as I had to much camber

Hi fx48 I may be wrong here but I think you may have other issues I had my wheel alignment done about 12 months ago when going for rego and had no such issues and no toe in.
Are you running rack and pinion on the front of the crossmember (Torana) if so this may be the cause.
I am happy for others to tell me I'm wrong been wrong many times before   ;D

If you have camber issues I suspect you have Torana stub axles rather than HQ. HQ stub axles have the same geometry as HR, with the exception of the raised axle position.

Thanks for all the help guys,
Just to clarify, can I still use the HR hubs and bearings I have or do I change the hubs to HQ?

You can't use the HR rotors and calipers on HQ stubs. HQ rotors are bigger in diameter and the holes that mount the caliper are correspondingly further away as well.

my toe in issue is from the front mounted torana rack ,I believe its different with a rear rack , every thing was already done and engineered before I swapped from HR to HQ stubs as my front ride height was just to high,
I may stand corrected but I always thought that the KPI was different HR to HQ

Yes, but FAQs (and search options) are over-rated and seldom read  :-\
