Title: Help !! Parts Wanted for EH Special 149 Motor
Post by: HAD 708 on January 13, 2015, 11:34:24 PM
Hi Guys
Needing the help or assistance of fellow forum members that may have or know where I can get 6 of 149 Red motor oversized pistons and rings or 6 of 161 Red Motor pistons and rings. I am 80% the way through a total resto on my 1 owner EH Sedan and the motor repairer has said the pistons are shot and I need to scource some replacements!!! I am happy to pay a fair price and organise freight etc. They are thin on the ground so I am using this great resource to see if anyone has or knows of any otherwise I will have to get some forged!!
Thanks
Brett

JP pistons still list both 149 and 161 pistons on their website.

hi Brett,

I got my grey motor pistons ( after blowing number 3 piston on the way back from the tassie nats ) from Automotive Surplus in Rooks Rd Nunawading . They supplied me with JP pistons which were made up ( they didn't have 20 thou over in stock ) and took about 6 weeks to get them and cost me $650.00 ( I priced them from JP themselves and they were alot dearer ) plus freight and this included rings and gudgeon pins. they will supply you with what you need but it may take some time if they don,t have them in stock. I hope this helps.

Regards Mick

Brett,

I went down to the back shed, and I found . . .

one set of (second-hand) 3.250" + 0.040" pistons and rings for a 149.

It would have been 1983, when a mate rebored his EH's 149, did maybe 10000 miles in it, then bent the car.  I bought the motor and gutted it for its crank and conrods for an X2 motor I was doing up a few years later.  The engine reconditioner pressed the pistons off the rods, and I kept them, for who knows what . . .?

They're Repco pistons, stamped RA2085 040 on the crowns.  They measure 3.289" at the bottom of the skirt.  The skirts have just the slightest wear marks in them.  There is the usual amount of carbon and oily crud on the crowns.  The pistons still have their rings, although I'd suggest you get a new set of rings.  There is a slight amount of surface rust on the piston pins, where the small end of the conrod would go.  I haven't tried to move the piston pins (the engine guy put them back in their respective pistons 32 years ago, and they haven't been moved since them).

If you want them, you can have them.

Rob
