Title: The Tassie Experience
Post by: Glenn 'Stinky' Stankevicius on December 27, 2012, 06:44:12 PM
I've not been for many years (12+), so I am guessing things have changed (at least a little bit) and dragging out a family of 6 I want to get my money's worth.

So..... What's to see ??

So far I want to see (if they are still there)
- Cadbury Factory (Hobart) although they stopped the factory tours ($2)  :'(
- Lactos Cheese Factory (near Burnie)
- Cataract Gorge (Burnie/Wynyard) ($2)
- Wildlife park in/around Burnie with Llamas and Aussie wildlife
- Monkey Park (Launceston) ($2)
- Port Arthur Convict Settlement ($2)
- Bakery in or around Richimond that does wicked scallop pies.
- Pengiun (just because it's there)
- Wynyard (because my mum used to live there)
- Burnie (because my Nanna used to live there)
- Salamanca Markets (Hobart) ($2)
- Boag's Brewery (Launceston) ($2)

please add to and correct for everyone's benefit.

We did some last Feb,

Freycinet

Hire a tinny and catch heaps of flathead, the walk up Mt Amos to see Wineglass bay is second to none!!!

There is free camping with heated showers and toilet blocks too!

Cheers

There was another place (not sure where) with a replica ship on an underwater rail system that went around and fired it's cannons etc amongst other educational stuff about Australia's early history.
I'd appreciate info if this is still running.

Stinky  I think the place you are thinking of is Penny Royal World at Launceston, but I'm pretty sure it's closed down now.  Dave

We are away on the big island at the moment, for a few weeks.

We are in touch with a company that will do drive holiday packages if any one is interested, anywhere in Tasmania.

I will also prepair a list of the East and West coast places I would recomend seeing when we return.

Regards

Mr & Mrs Weddo

Yes please, Bill.

My research suggests that Easter 2014 falls in the middle of the NSW school holidays, but the start of the Tassie ones. So I suspect we'll need to book things early to avoid disappointment, as they say.

cheers

Railtrack Riders was excellent if your into trains and the whole family can do it. You get to pedal rail riders through the rainforrest on a disused track. If you get puffed or slow they come and push you with their motorised rider and you can push anyone slower in front of you.
