Title: clutch master cylinder
Post by: Not Happy Jan on September 26, 2012, 09:17:13 AM
Hi All
My clutch master cylinder has started to leak.
I am just wondering what the best option is?
Do I put a kit through the old one or do I get a new master cylinder!
There are new masters on ebay for around 75 bucks but rares has one for $105 part no 7426666 but it says
CYLINDER MASTER FE-HR CLUTCH & HD-HR BRAKE W/DISC???
I'm a little confused :P :P
The brake master also has a small leak... is this the same master???
Nick

clutch and brake are same except for the check valve in drums
if you run discs they are the same
i just recoed my clutch master,
was gonna just buy a new one,
but went the reco cause i couldnt be bothered polishing a new one,
as i spent ages polishing the old one
kit was $13 and hone was $25
total 38 bucks..........works great
but u run the risk of all that work and still having it leak
i think go the new one and know it will last you for ages,
i am just a tight arse, which can cost you more in the long run
i kitted my slave cylinder a while ago.............just had to  buy a new one recently.........

Thanks Waynos
Yeah,I think I'll go down the new track then. Sending it away to get honed and then I cant drive it for a couple of days...and as you say run the risk of it still leaking.
The ones on Ebay are black!!! Yuk!I'll ring rares and see what colour their's are!
What is the check valve ?

What is the check valve ?
Nick

aka as a "residual valve" which holds line pressure a bit higher for drum brakes.

sorry the plumber in me called it a check valve.
yes the residual valve..........thanks ed
nick i just bought a hone for 25 bucks, and did it myself
sending it away to get honed would end up costing the same as a new master........
i looked on the net and saw those black ones
thats why i went the kit way
its only paint just wire wheel the stuff off
i got a wire wheel set for the drill for about 8 bucks from the 2 dollar shop

hd/hr had discs without the valve,
so thats why they list them the same as a clutch master for fe/fc and stuff
just be careful wire wheelin near the new plastic cup............
spray it with silicon spray or clear it to keep it shiny
