Title: Front wheel bearings
Post by: Not Happy Jan on March 30, 2012, 02:01:05 PM
Hi All.
Are they different standards of wheel bearings. I am going to replace the fronts on the standard and also buy a set for the wagon.
What is a fair price for them and should I avoid any brands Would most places sell them???
Nick

Hi Nick
I was told some time ago that Holden have used the same wheel bearing on all models not sure if this is true but my HZ rotors fitted on to the HR stub axles and the commodore ones did the same thing.

Have you received the centre cap yet? Bloody Aussie Post  ;D

Holden wheel bearing sizes are all the same from early FE to VR, but I am thinking what you really meant was brand?  I always try to find new old bearings - usually Timken bearings - Not too hard to find in old Holden boxes. Nowadays the bearings are all Chinese and not as good in my opinion.

Most FEs had smaller diameter  stub axles and the bearings are different to late FEs and FCs.

Actually it is only the 1956 FE's that had the FJ size bearings. All 57 and 58 FE 's have "A" and "B" bearings

Ken,

I purchased my car new in early October 1957 ( Sydney) which was fitted with  the early bearings.
