Title: paint stripping
Post by: Gordon on January 25, 2012, 01:11:35 PM
Hi, have noticed a lot of people on this forum looking for good sandblasters,is having the car chemically stripped by these places that dip the whole body getting rid of all paint, filler, rust etc ok or does it have its disadvantages ?
Thanks Gordon

I've had two cars stripped at Minus Paint in Adelaide, as long as you follow the directions there are no disadvantages. You'll hear horror stories about every process so don't go by anecdotes (My mate's, mate's, sister's boyfriend's cousin said...) try to get feedback from people who have actually had the work done.
From experience Minus Paint will strip the paint and filler, then in a separate process remove all rust, it's usally not pretty then they'll etch prime it.

That's great advice stinky. As with every process its a process and cutting corners can cause issues like if they don't get rid of the stripping agent and it is eating away behind the mask of the paint in all the folds etc. But same goes for badly prepared blasted jobs or using crap primers.
