Title: Gear Boxes Post by: REDMR2RED on November 01, 2011, 07:40:48 AM I'm thinking of reconditioning an EK gear box from a grey motor then do a swap into my FC Ute.
My question is are EK gear boxes the same as FC gear boxes? Can a straight swap be done? Or am I better off getting my FC box reconditioned and have my FC laid up for a week? Kevin Title: Re: Gear Boxes Post by: Harv on November 01, 2011, 09:03:59 AM Kevin,
There are three separate grey motor crashboxes - early humpy, FJ-EK and EJ, each of which is different to the red crashbox. I suspect they are largely interchangeable, perhaps with the exception of the EJ grey box. Case assemblies changed between 48-FJ and FJ-EK, though I suspect the changes were minor. EJ and EH had the same case up till EH engine number 81520, then EH-HR got it's own case. Extension housings were identical 48-EK, EJ got it's own housing, as did till EH engine number 81520, then EH-HR got it's own extension housing. There were also internals changes as well. Short answer is I believe the EK box will be a bolt in for the ute. Cheers, Harv. Given a choice, use the EK box.
