Title: Satellite Phone
Post by: FC_fer_me on September 15, 2011, 07:40:27 PM
For those of you who are going to Perth Nats and worried about mobile reception on the way over a satellite phone is the way to go. $1 per minute on a prepaid plan. They are not much larger than a moble and if you do a lot of travelling you may be eligible for a Govt subsidy. Check them out on this site - http://www.toxictech.com.au/
Cheers, Jack

I have done this trip a few times, and as long as you have one of the main stream mobile service providers (Telstra, Optus etc) you should be ok. I would not bother with the expense of a Sat Phone.

Cheers Jim

Cathy and I have only taken our mobiles. My Telstra gives much better coverage than Cathys Optus.
Obviously there are large areas without coverage (Including Widgemooltha  :o ) Unless you're going off the beaten track where you are alone you should be OK with just the mobile. It's suprising how busy the traffic is when cruising across the country. Help and assistance never seems far away.

But don't forget the breakdown kit
