Title: Travelling
Post by: colt on July 12, 2011, 03:08:04 PM
Jacky and I are sitting in the lounge at Sydney airport waiting to board our A380 to London and then over to Vienna and Linz for the start of our 10 week European trip. Included hopefully will be a visit to Paul In Ireland during our UK stint.

Anyone interested can follow our travels via our blog "Jacky and Col's Big Adventure".

As this is our first overseas trip, we decided to make the most of our time. We are starting with a visit to my sister in Austria, then a 27 day bus tour starting in London and finishing in Amsterdam, followed by a trip through the UK including the Edinborough Tattoo, then Ireland, Wales and finally leaving via London.

We are both very excited and full of anticipation for a busy time.

Colin.

Thanks, David for the blog link. Yes, Tim set the blog up for us. We are sitting in Vienna airport after a very tiring set of flights. We missed our connection at London, which means we missed our Linz connection. Our luggage has gone on a holiday also, deciding NOT to come to Vienna! We are chasing down our rogue cases as I type this.

Good on ya Hotlips. The hills are alive alright, with Opels, Citreons, Renaults, Fords and bloody Japanese cars. We are now in Linz, with my sister and her family. It is 8.30 on Thursday night. We are 7 hours behind eastern Australia. Our luggage has just turned up. Turns out it went to the wrong terminal at London. Everything is so different, drinking good wheat beer, eating different foods, yum! Left hand drive, all the places are very close. My neices husbands family has a farm about 15mins away. The house is about 300 years old, the views are magificent. We stay here till Sunday, then we go back to London to start our tour on Tuesday morning. I'll think of all you guys going to work, NOT!

Piccys up soon on our blog.

Colin.

A bit of an update. We left Monaco this morning and are now in Florence. Our hotel in Monaco sits on the downhill horseshoe corner leading into the tunnel. There are F1 bits & pieces everywhere. The cars, people and money going through this place are unbelievable. There are as many special cars as run of the mill. Ferraris, Lambos, Astons, Jags, Bentleys, Rolls. Just for starters. The regular cars are parked around the back. Two cars which stood out for me: a really nice late 50's Caddy. 2 tone blue, looked as though it was being used as intended, as a limo. The 2nd was a McLaren Merc convertible. Simply amazing. This car shook the ground when the guy drove it away. I'll try & get some pics up.

We'll get to the FE-FC part of our trip in about 3 or 4 weeks. Till then we'll just all have to put up with what they've got. I've seen a Holden, it was on the motorway in Germany. Ok, it was a rebadged Opel Astra. The Opel symbol had been replaced by a Holden lion and the Opel badge had been replaced by a Holden badge. Because it overtook our bus I only saw the back of it. It sounded like a hottie too. And yes, I did get a piccy. I've taken a liking to Fiat 500's. There is still a good number of the originals around and there are heaps of the new ones around, not just in Italy. And the number of models seems to be big.

We are back in Paris, our bus trip is over, thank goodness. We have met up with Julius and Nicola from the ACT club who are also travelling around. We go to London tomorrow for 2 days, then we head to Edinburgh for the Tattoo. We then go our separate ways to continue our holidays.

Colin.

Update time. I am happy to say that we have had a ride in an FE. We met up with Paul In Ireland and his family. We didn't have a lot of time due to circumstances but Paul took us for a ride into town and his lovely wife made us a great lunch. It was good to put a face to the name and to get some relief from the European cars. We had a great day.

Unfortunately I still haven't mastered the piccy uploading thingy so I will be asking Alex to do the honours for me again.

We are currently in Eastern Ireland and go to Wales on Friday, for a week after which we return home. Ireland is truly spectacular, the people are wonderful and friendly, the rain seems to fall constantly. It's just a shame about their cars, although on some of their roads a big car would be a distinct disadvantage.

Colin.

But despite that we really enjoyed both or you and your company and hope the rest of your trip goes well. I look forward to meeting up again one day soon.

All the best

Paul

NB - this should have been one post but for some reason it posted the part when I wasn't looking  ::)

Great photo. Ironic indeed that Paul has made it back to Australia before Col & Jacky.

You'll have to give Paul a ride in your FE at Easter time.

Hey Col

Any chance that you guys can drive Paul's FC to Perth for him?
I've watched some awesome doco's about the Paris to Peking rallies.

Glad to read on your blog that the trip is going so well.

Cheers, Tim

A bit hard there, Tim. We arrived home this morning after a 19 hr flight. Needless to say we are both zonked. We finished with a week in Wales which was fantastic. All these places which we have earmarked for a return visit. We had a fantastic time and must now face the realities of returning to work. Now looking forward to Easter in Perth.
